How do you console a person?

I've been there before. All I could do, in some situations where being "silly" is permissible, is half-jokingly offer a hug (and being rejected). Otherwise, I just stand there. Or slide away somewhere else ( Read more... )

might be a rant, ehh

consoling i guess depends on the person.

usually i try to get them to talk. i'm no good at talking myself, but sometimes all they need to do is vent and get whatever it is that's bothering them off their chest, i think.

otherwise, the most i can do is a hug or a pat on the back.

i'm pretty useless at consoling, too. D:

haha, i've noticed you don't hug a lot of people. XD some people are awkward with hugs too, just like you, so maybe that's a good thing?

I think the way to console a person depends on the actually person, seeing as different people are comforted in different ways.

For example, when I get upset I prefer it when people give me a hug or say something (even if it's a bit silly). It's the little extra warmth that makes me feel better, or the simple comfort that someone cares (feeling speshul ♥). On the other hand, sometimes ignoring the person doesn't do anything at all and tends to make me even more sad.

Others however, tend to want to be away from others and wallow themselves in their thoughts. I usually just rub circles on their back or something, because I honestly believe that every gesture, no matter how small, counts.

But yeah, those are my two cents. :]

Rubbing circles? What... do you mean? Whatever it is, it sounds convincing. Gah, I should try it and see if it works on some people.

But warmth is good, I should think about it more. :D

Thanks, I will try to remember this... ^^
