Current reading list

I've decided to shelve Otherland where I am for now, as I'm finding it becoming dense here, early in Book Three -- I will finish it, but I don't seem to be making any progress, so I think it's best to pause there for now and read a few other things. Here's what I've still got unread:

  • Bujold - Cordelia's Honor (Miles Vorkosigan series, book #?)

I'm making another attempt at The Golden Compass currently, and not liking it any better than I did the first time I tried to read it. I do have high hopes for the movie, though...

And I was not at all impressed with Perdido Street Station, which surprised me because a person whose taste I find very trustworthy had recommended it to me. (I consider Mieville a completely overwrought poser. Just my opinion, of course.)

You're aware that The Amber Spyglass is the second book of HDM, yes? It's not a series that can be read out of order. Admittedly, TAS is the weakest part.

Oops, I was thinking of The Golden Compass. It was the first book I read.

Incidentally, it appears that The Amber Spyglass is the third book.

heh, I'm going to say I was completely underwhelmed by His Dark Materials too.

It was just a big load of meh for me. I found nothing original or exciting in it and I didn't like most of the characters, found the tasks they faced and questions they raised uninteresting and got pretty pissed off with how much Pullman seemed to be bluntly trying to force his ideology on me, especially in the third book.

Oh- since you posted this I got American Gods. (Mo as talked about it so much I wanted to read it!) I actually really like it. But I can also see why you might not.
