Political sign wars

Our neighbors directly across the street are clearly conservatives... NRA stickers on their vehicles and so forth. One of the girls just glares at Kate and me whenever she sees us. The day I melted our jumper cables trying to start my truck, she sat in her SUV watching us, laughing. I got the impression she was rather hoping we might burst into ( Read more... )

Good for you! Of course, there IS the "you have to live next door to these people post-election," but I'm proud of you for sticking to your guns. I'm not telling you to take them down (leave 'em up until Obama's inaugurated in January, I say as I knock on wood), but one way to stop escalation is to be the bigger person and draw the line.

Just a suggestion! I would slap an Obama 08 bumper sticker on their car, but it's easier to SAY that than to do it. ;-D

LOL! I don't think we will escalate from here, because, as you point out, we will have them across the way from us after the election... :)

Mean people suck.

(I could say a lot more, but succinctness has its strong points.)

Well, you could always screw with her and sneak out at night and swap the signs in your yard for the ones in hers, and vice versa.

Ok, not stealing hers, but going and getting your own McCain signs. Maybe 50 or so of them. She probably wouldn't even get that you were mocking her though.

In any case, displaying an opposition sign for evil purposes is certainly ok.

LOL! I like the idea of switching signs, but it would probably give Kate a heart attack to even suggest putting a McCain sign in our yard.

Wow, that's kind of freaky; and by freaky I mean the part where a person is so mean-spirited that she would sit in her SUV and laugh at you while you have truck problems. Wow. Issues much?

Yeah, whatever happened to being a Good Neighbour? I pulled the same stunt several years ago in a different neighbourhood and one of our neighbours came rushing over to help me, never laughing or making fun of my ineptness or distress. We've been nothing but cordial to the original renter, even helpful with their dog issues. I really just wanted to go over later that day, knock on the door, punch her in the nose and say, "Oh, did you find THAT funny?" I have to keep check on those tendencies more and more. With age comes wisdom AND knee-jerk reactions :)

You're doing admirably, though. :)

Ya, I have to agree. My advice to my niece when Crazy Woman (capital C, capital W) kept calling was that you don't want to make eye contact with Crazy People. Then they'll keep following you about trying to get a reaction, money, something out of you.

Someone in Oklahoma who wouldn't help her neighbor with a dead car.... she's off center enough to qualify as a crazy person.

I hadn't quite thought of it like that, but I see your point.
