PLEASE READ - Auction Closing Procedure
Please read this post through completely before asking questions.
What will happen?
Bidding ends today July 5th at 0:00 am PDT. This is 3 am EDT (Eastern Daylight Time/US East Coast timezone) or 7 am UTC on July 6th. To prevent bids from being shown after that, the community will be screened. Any bids not shown in the community don’t count.
Note for offerers: If anyone bids on your offer after the community gets screened, you will get the notification in your inbox if you have notifications turned on. However, the bid does not count anymore. Please disregard any bids placed after the community has been screened.
After a while, the community will be unscreened and the mods will start sending out notifications to the winning bidders. This might take some time.
Offerers
If you are an offerer, you can notify the winning bidder yourself by using this handy template.
You won my offering of: You can donate to any of the charities listed in the sidebar of this community. You can also donate to this charity/these charities, which I support (optional): If you want to donate to a different charity/agency/organization, let me know and we can discuss it. You can contact me at: Just to remind you, this offer was posted at: http://community.livejournal.com/gulf_aid_now/____________ Just reply to the comment with the winning bid in it. You don’t have to do this if the mods have already notified your winning bidder, but you can still tell your winning bidder anything you’d like.
Your winning bidder will then send confirmation of their donation to you, and you can start on your offer as soon as you receive the confirmation. However, in the interest of keeping track of all the donations, please leave a comment in the donation confirmation post (which will go up as soon as the auction ends) with the URL of your offer and the amount donated by your winning bidder.
Unless otherwise agreed with your winning bidder, please try to give your offer before July 31st . However, DO NOT give out an offer before receiving confirmation of the donation.
Bidders
All winning bidders will receive a notification from either the mods or the offerers, as described above. Once you’ve received that confirmation, you can donate the money you bid to any of the charity organizations linked in the sidebar to the left, or another charity of your (or the offerer’s) choice.
When you donate, you must get a receipt
If you donated electronically, the receipt should be e-mailed to you. You can forward the confirmation e-mail directly or screencap the confirmation screen or the confirmation mail. If you donate in person, please get a written receipt with your LJ username and/or e-mail on it, then scan or photograph it. Afterwards, you can send the screencap/picture to your offerer. He or she can start as soon as the confirmation arrives. LJ is notorious about swallowing messages, so don't delete the evidence of your donation until your offerer has confirmed that they received your confirmation!
If you're not sure which charity to donate the money to,
here is a very useful link that has ratings and stats on several charities to help you decide!
In case you won several offers, you can combine all the money in one donation if your offerers all agree with the charity. In that case, just drop us a line to say for which offers you donated, so we can keep track of everything.
If at all possible, please make your donation within 72 hours after the auction closes. If you can’t donate before then, please notify both your winning bidder and one of the mods.
I’m not comfortable with disclosing my personal information. Can I obscure it?
Yes you can! For electronic receipts, we need to know which organization you donated to, the date and time, the amount donated, the confirmation number and either the first letter of your first and last name, or your entire first name.
If there are any conflicts, please contact one of the mods on either our personal accounts or the main
gan_mods account. We will try to resolve the situation as quickly and civilly as possible.
Thank you all for your support! You’ve been absolutely wonderful!
EDIT: Ninalyn here to let you all know that confirmation may take a little longer than expected; I'm currently on my way to the ER (nothing life-threatening, just incredibly painful) and don't know if I'll be around (and not-drugged-up enough) to help--I'll try to be, but no guarantees. Thanks SO MUCH to everyone who has offered or bid, and thank you in advance for your patience as the other mods start the confirmation process!
