(After Jo, Three and Koschei have met and separated - for Three and Koschei and/or anyone else who wants to join in)Jo had spent an interesting, not to mention educational time talking to the locals. Despite everything that was going on, there were always people wanting to gossip, or just wanting to tell their story and be believed. Listening was ( Read more... )

The Master spotted her as he walked along alone. He'd been exploring the dusty human colony and had come to some conclusions, but he was keeping them to himself for now. The woman on the bench could only be one of their fellow conscriptees. He sauntered over.

"Taking a little rest?" he supposed.

He bit back another remark and patted Jo's hand, watching the back of the Master's head. So long as he wasn't leading them into a trap, they'd be alright.

"I'd hardly call the Tachyeon 'primitive', they're more advanced than large parts of their sector."

"What are they like?" Jo asked. "Just in case this is them." And to try and stop the Doctor and the Master from getting one up on each other. But given that they'd done that as long as she knew them that would probably be an impossible task.

The Master rolled his eyes. "I'm not talking about the Tachyeon!" he snapped. "I'm talking about this planet. This planet in this time. Whoever stole the technology is interfering with this primitive world."

"I still wouldn't call this planet primitive." Although during the current period of time, it was quite close to primitive. "Let's just see what we're up against. Primitive or not, the people need our help."

"Quite right," Jo said, coming down firmly on the Doctor's side and hoping to end the argument. "Wait, here's not from round here."

The man she'd stopped and stared at had the skin colour and the clothes of someone from Egypt. While he could have come over, it was a long, expensive journey, even in the 21st century and he didn't look rich enough to be able to afford it. Plus he was unusually tall - taller even than the Doctor.

"Oh, please," the Master muttered. "In five hundred years this planet will still be a primitive wasteland."

He turned and looked where Jo indicated.

"Interesting. I'm sure he's trying to blend into the local colour."

The Doctor took an extra moment to glare at the Master before he, too, turned to look at the man.

"Trying but unfortunately failing." There was every chance that the man was just a victim of circumstance, but his slightly elongated fingers told the Doctor other wise. No human had fingers like that.

He patted Jo's hand and unraveled her arm from his, leaving her and wandering toward the stranger.

"Good afternoon," he said with a friendly smile, "you seem a little lost. Is there anything I can help you with?"

The man looked the Doctor up and down, then turned his nose up. "No, thank you," he said haughtily.

Jo hurried up to them, all smiles. "Perhaps you can help us. We were wondering where you got your spaceship from."

ooc: I am making this up as I go along, so feel free to make up stuff and write this man/alien

The Master laughed. "They're wondering," he said, tilting his head towards Jo and the Doctor. "Because it's not obvious to them." He narrowed his eyes slightly. "Why this time? What do they have of value?"

Puzzled, the Doctor looked from the Master to the stranger. He was trying to pick whether or not the Master had a past affiliation with the stranger. It wouldn't surprise him if he had, to be perfectly honest. The Master was excellent and forming alliances with those just as dastardly as he could be, then severing them at the last moment and taking everything for himself.

"Livesss," he hissed at the Master, flexing his fingers.

Jo frowned. "You're alive too, aren't you?"

The man gave her a look as if she was stupid and laughed, which Jo wasn't too happy about.

"Why don't you tell us what you need them for?"

But he didn't answer her question and instead stared at the Master.

The Master grinned. "They do, don't they?" he said, ignoring Jo's questions. "Lots of them, milling all over the surface of this planet like so much cattle. Life energy, going spare, not accomplishing much."

The Master's sudden chumminess with their strange visitor might not be something that the Doctor wanted, but it could also work to their advantage. So he kept quiet for the moment, but watched each one very, very carefully.

"So useless," the man replied, staring intently at the Master. It were as though he thought that perhaps if he stared hard enough, than his eyes might bore through the Master. "So very, very useless."

"It's not going spare," Jo said, not letting the Master get away with saying something like that, no matter what his reasons might be. "We're using it."

Fortunately the man took no notice of her - it was as if the Master was the only there as far as he was concerned. "I can make so much more use of their lives than they can."

"Well, that isn't saying much," the Master pointed out, ignoring Jo also. "But is this really the most efficient way to manage it? What do you need them for that you can't just harvest them wholesale? Why all the sneaking around?"
