Rose and Lissa were heading to the dining hall for dinner when they met up with a few other novices. Normally that'd be cool, but tonight Rose and Lissa had planned to spend some time alone together. It'd been a while since they'd gotten to just hang out, and Rose had tried to brush the other novices and their alcohol smell off as they started asking questions about Fandom.
The movement from her right was almost a relief, and Rose lashed out instantly, putting her body between it and Lissa. Sundays were supposed to be their day off, but nothing friendly would move that fast or come out of the shadows like that. Her fist connected with the older guardian's face, and she followed that up with a kick to her gut as she moved to pull her practice stake.
Yuri moved towards Rose out of the darkness, watching approvingly as the girl maneuvered to put her current opponent between herself and the new threat then staked Jean cleanly. He circled Rose, feinting in to test her reflexes and wondering which novice was showing up tonight. The one that Belikov praised or the screw up who froze up with Stan.
The muffled sounds behind Rose were Dean facing off with his attacker, but all Rose cared about was the man in front of her and knowing that Lissa was just to the side and completely out of the fight. Yuri was better than her previous opponent, and she watched carefully as she exchanged blows with him for an opening that would let her dispatch him and move to help Dean.
He was so much taller than the novice. If he could get close enough, he'd be able to overpower her, and seeing his chance, Yuri moved in, grabbing for Rose to try to throw her to the ground.
