Too bad they weren't married. If he went to divorce her, she would have to show up to court and if she didn't there would be a warrant out for her arrest. Because of extradition, it would be good anywhere and she'd be found.
Maine doesn't recognize common law marriage, or else I'd say go for that.
Oh, one very very important thing. Did he declare paternity at the hospital when his kids were born? That's vitally important because the law considered biological parents superior to legal guardians.
I'm pretty sure he did. He is the father, after all, and he was there. I can't ask him right now but I don't see any reason why he wouldn't have declared paternity.
