I'm Australian myself, and while I can't stand Howard and do not support the majority of the policies instituted by the current government, I do agree with this one. It is harsh, yes, but when you consider that some HIV+ people have a propensity toward the wilful infection of others, it's definitely something that needs to be done.

Yeah, it's unfortunate but seems necessary considering it's ravaging certain populations.

I don't view it as racist, even if the majority of people affected are from the African continent. The costs of treatment aren't any different whether the person sick is white or black.

Call me a heartless bastard, but it's sound policy.

I read about this earlier today, and similar thoughts ran through my head. As much as I hate Howard, he makes perfect sense here. I would probably do the same thing if I were in his position.

Not for me, looking at it from a cost-benefit analysis.

Which doesn't mean that I feel good about it. People living with the disease have my heart, but it doesn't mean they have my wallet.
