Yet another evil, but (arguably) unintended and often overlooked consequence of marriage inequality and DOMA.

U.S. immigration policy ripping spouses from one another, and making American citizens choose to either live with the person they love, or in their own country.

And this is why the "it's a states right issue!" argument is, imo, crap. Some of the benefits and penalties that come with marriage involve the FEDERAL government. So unless gay marriage is legalized by the federal government, people will still get screwed, as is happening here.

That's true, but those people saying it's a state issue are doing so to oppose attempts to ban gay marriage in the U.S. Constitution, or lament DOMA, which was an unprecedented expansion of federal power into the realm of marriage, which has always been an issue for states.
