I haven't done concentrated data hunting in a while, and I just spent three hours tracking down Air Force and Army service ribbons and medals for a friend. She inherited a box from her dad with random, and sometimes repeating, service ribbons. Great job. My dad had some retired military that had several ribbons from their tours and for the life of me, I don't I would be able have the faintest ideas of when, what or why if I saw them today. Sounds like a wonderful job for your friend. :-)

I kid you not, I've been working through Wikipedia, which was gorgeously set up by someone(s?) who knew what she/they were doing, down to pictures of the badges and ribbons in color so I could compare. Then I found a full color poster of the ribbons in order of precedence, which also helped a lot.
