(HL/SG-1, for not_hathor's treat bag)

The guy in front of Jack was shoving his shopping cart ahead slowly, taking up a lot of the aisle. Admittedly, at 3 AM there was no real reason he shouldn't. The cart was loaded with decent bread, good deli meats and cheeses, a bag of coffee and a container of cream, and now he was picking out ( Read more... )

Please tell me you're going to continue this one! Very nice (but Marine should always be Capitalized! )

I think Marine is only capitalized when it refers to the organization, not the people in the organization. But I won't swear by that.

Quick googling: AP, NY Times, and Webster's capitalize, Chicago Manual of Style doesn't.

Yeah, the USMC insists it is. CMOS and the US Armed Forces reference manual I checked in '07 say that marine is a common noun such as soldier, sailor, or airman, and is not capitalized. ::shrugs:: So, if I'm writing from the POV of a Marine, it's capitalized, and if I'm writing from the POV of a non-marine, it isn't.

::laughing:: I have no idea. Maybe. Glad you liked it!

::grins at you:: And I know, current or former members of the USMC think it's capitalized, and when I'm writing from that POV, it is capitalized. Jack, however, is Air Force, so it wasn't.

I love the little details, like people on gate teams knowing what food spoils and how quickly. I also love the comment about Jack's officer sign flashing.

Honestly, the entire base does; they've all been caught in a base lockdown at least once or twice unless they're really new. And yeah, Jack's officer sign flashes when he's not paying attention. (When he is paying attention, stars or no stars, he turns up where no one expected him, I don't doubt!) Glad you enjoyed it!
