Some notes on Duncan, so I don't lose them again

Dec 30, 2007 21:07

Once, years ago, I went through and counted up all the heads Duncan took, friends whose deaths were reported, lovers dead, etc, during the five and a half years covered by HL:the series. (I didn't count the Raven's stats in this.) I'm posting the numbers behind a cut-tag, to save my friends' lists, but here so that I won't lose the damn list again ( Read more... )

this reminds me of the 'argument' Alex and Methos had at the end of Sirocco. Poor Duncan, indeed.

::nodding:: I did a rough count for Sirocco, yeah, and a more detailed one later, although now I can't remember which story that was for. But I didn't want to lose the notes, so.... Yeah. Definitely poor Duncan!

Poor Duncan indeed. Yeah, that also puts me in mind of the argument at the restraunt after the Line War when Duncan needed some time to himself. And Methos' feelings were hurt. Duncan has been through alot in a short period of time. Too much. It's a wonder he's still sane. No wonder he needed time to put down the katana and re-evaluate his life.

And I count Bryan Cullen as a lover as well.

::nodding:: As I mentioned to Lomedet, I did a rough count then, but man, Pat, it averages out to one quickening per 34.6 days. Every five weeks? Hell, in the Line War, Alex was yelling at Aidan for five in one years. One every five weeks? ::shudder:: Good God, what a miracle he was sane at all!

(And I'm with you. I list Brian as one of his lovers, and I'm none too damn sure Warren Cochrane wasn't.)

And yet with all of that he never moved to a new city, changed his name or dropped Rich off with someone else so he could go have hysterics in private somewhere. Remember that according to cannon he hadn't taken any head for the 12 years previous either so it's not like his life was always like that.

He's the Energizer Bunny of immortals, he just kept going and going...

I think the man deserved a nice breakdown somewhere on holy ground for a century or so, although he'd probably feel guilty if he took 6 months out.

::nodding:: I completely agree: a nice, much-deserved, long-delayed nervous breakdown, far far away under a pseudonym. Poor guy. ::wry:: The miracle is that Connor didn't hijack him to come take a long vacation, you know?

Although all of this does make sense of Connor's tendency to be a ship's captain: guaranteed time without challenges on those long voyages. And it's easy to get away from pursuers when you can order 'Weigh anchor!'

Re: Curious about your take on somethjing... gryphonrhi January 19 2008, 22:03:13 UTC
No, I don't think so. I get the impression most immortals don't actually believe in dark or light quickenings, even the ones old enough to know about Darius. I think some immortals are addicted to the adrenaline rush of hunting, and some like to kill, and some love the fights and hate the quickenings...::shrugs:: People, y'know? Infinite variety. But everyone's mileage probably varies.
