You know, this one didn't do a lot for me either. he shadowy things didn't make sense to me (in the way the ghost truck didn't make sense to me - ie, they didn't Feel Right). Basically, the whole plot just flailed all over the place.

And then, yes, I'm with you all the way that the logic of splitting up at the end was just stupid, and whatever emotional note there got missed.

OTOH, YES to the reunion scene. Yes, apparently Sam does automatically snap to and say "Yes, sir," if he doesn't have some reason not to. And yay hugs ( ... )

Oh! Also! The African American landlady? That's the same actress who played the priestess character on BSG - you know, the one who advises Roslin early on in the series.

Ahh, that's where I knew her from! I knew I recognized her! Thanks!

I found the whole scene where Dean admits how much he wants Sam around to be just heartbreaking.

It was interesting to see him willingly display such raw vulnerability and admit what he wants for once. I like that he can be needy, and it made him seem like the younger brother.

On Meg: we see her pull out a separate control-device - from inside her shirt, maybe? - and I figured that meant she'd been using that one all the time, and the other one the boys destroyed was just a decoy. Does that help?

Yes, thank you!

Bah! I didn't realize you had started doing this, too!

I think I may have been spoiled on some later elements of the series - but I see a huge _Paradise Lost_ allusion to the family dynamics here. A pre-destiny sort of a plot mixed with "Prodigal Son" stuff... I also keep thinking of Sam vs. Dean as if they are dealing with what Buffy had to deal with: Slayer-hood. Fighting demons is a "calling" and a "job" and part of Dean and John's identity. I love Dean's childlike faith that his family can come together again. But why is Sam denying and repressing himself so much?

Anyway... I think my thoughts are left-field thoughts....

Yup, I review each episode. It's been a few weeks because I've been traveling, but I'll probably get back to it soon. I'm spoiled on a lot of stuff too (I read the DVD summaries on Amazon, and boy was that a mistake). I agree that there are a lot of similarities with Buffy. I view it as Dean is more in line with later-seasons!Buffy when she starts to view slaying as fundamental to her identity and Sam mirrors early-seasons!Buffy who saw slaying as an inconvenience and a job. It'll be interesting to see Sam come round to Dean's way of thinking (if at all) as the series progresses and if Dean ever reaches a middle ground.
