So, I have a $1600-something credit with United, for which I cannot change the passenger name and which can only be rebooked as a single itinerary (i.e. I cannot use it for several separate vacations). In other words, I'm going somewhere international, which is fine with me ( Read more... )

Sydney will be in summer mode then. It may be essential.

Sydney is pretty awesome. But that's also a looooong flight for just a few days. If that's not scaring you off though I'd say Sydney or Hong Kong all the way.

Good call on the long-ass flight. You'll be spending ~16-18 hours on a plane each way to get to Sydney. So, 36 hours for ~98 hours of non-flight time. *weighs hands*

London's not a bad option.

If you do Sydney, see if you can wrangle an upgrade to business class. It would totally be worth it.

Where haven't you been? Where do you want to go?

If it was me, I'd punt in the $300 to go to Moscow, because I've never been and I'd want to see St. Basil's, the Kremlin and if I could get to the Hermitage in the short time allotted.

Hugs.

If you stay in a hostel, Sydney is average. Meals are about $15-30, and getting around is quick and easy at about $80/wk.

If you stay in a hotel, it is somewhere on the realm of $200-300/nt for a double bed.

Touristy things are also kind of expensive. I would look into packages for the nature-y things, but you can easily get yourself to a beach for cheap.
