A Great Danish

That’s the name of the big guy’s last post. Oh wait, no, it’s A Great Day. My mistake. For some reason, every time I visit his blog, I think about food. Weird.

Sorry for the delay in this post, as well; I had planned on ranting yesterday - and I did, trust me - but certain technical difficulties precluded me from getting my words up for the world ( Read more... )

Seen his latest blog entry yet? Not only is he pushing his latest wild card book but he's encouraging people to PRE-ORDER. Yes, he wants you to pre-order. Conveniently forgetting, of course, the thousands of people who've been hanging on pre-order for a certain other book for god knows how many months. The man has no shame.

a word on tummy anonymous November 6 2008, 17:02:37 UTC
Just to stick up for the author-
Each Chapter is a point of view. So while we are in the chapter, we are getting not a narrative from the character, but that "unseen narrator from out there somewhere" but with a peak into the mind of the POV character and no one else.
So the over use of the word tummy is actually being done by Sansa, not GRRM. Its another device to help illustrate her naivete. She hasn't grown up yet so to speak, and it shows. Maybe she'll use the word "tinkle" as well?

I get that it's Sansa POV that gives rise to the use of the word "tummy." But I'm not buying that a 13 to 14 year old girl who has been a) beaten regularly and profusely by her betrothed, b) attacked by a bloodthirsty mob, c) rescued from said mob by a half-faced swordsman who she saw hack off people's body parts, d) forced into a wedding to a deformed midget, and e) been witness to the assassination of a king, hasn't grown up past use of the word "tummy."

Don't forget, before all that she saw her father beheaded. That alone justifies the "no tummy" rule.

Tip from anonymous insider who would be eaten by mobs if seen posting here...

Epic novels to the small screen sam_crecelius November 6 2008, 20:20:52 UTC
Just as a change of pace, have you seen 'The Legend of the Seeker'? Terry Goodkind's novels on WGN or WB or something like that. It makes me kind of nervous about SoIaF coming to HBO. Special effects are kind of 'Xena: Warrior Princess', and they take some pretty big liberties w/ the plot.

Have you seen Rome or other shows on HBO? (I just finished John Adams, great mini series) They are amazing, and have high budgets and excellent script writing. It's not even fair comparing HBO to WGN or whoever network it was that produced Xena. They focus less on special effects and more on plot and immersion into the time period with sets and costumes, etc.

New Blog entry anonymous November 10 2008, 15:48:47 UTC
I just want to make a note on GRRM's new blog entry, entitled "Double Your Pleasure." I have a theory that there are secret messages involved. This may be just because I really want to believe he is working on the book and is actually going to finish it.

First, notice the title: "Double your Pleasure." Then, notice the last phrase of the post "for those who like D." If we like D, then we find pleasure in it. D is therefore out pleasure. If we double this, then we get two D's, which could be a crude abrieviation for A Dance with Dragons. I know I'm stretching it, but a guy can deam, can't he? I mean, it can't all just be about football, can it?
