Sigh....Holidays...

Dec 09, 2009 12:06

The holidays are depressing for several reasons. First and foremost, I get swamped with all sorts of grading crap, which is why I end up living in a hole for most of November. Add to that the fact that my girlfriend is basically living with me now, and I get no time for fun ramblings on FTBG. Is it just me, or do women ruin everything that's cool? ( Read more... )

Give the Guy a Break heatcramp December 9 2009, 18:31:04 UTC
I really don't understand why you can't just give Ser Martin a break. He is under a lot of pressure to finish this book and on top of that he has the series to consider. Perhaps if you spent less time ranting about how he can please you and more time "teaching" then your students wouldn't hand in such shitty work....

I'm just fucking with you...you're spot on with all of your observations...as usual.

With respect to the writing of high schoolers, yes, unfortunately I have recently read some samples. I blame the proponents of outcome-based education.

With respect to your girlfriend selfishly inhibiting your blogging, I can offer a likely, albeit evil, solution. Get her to read the first three books of ASOIAF. If you don't like her that much, have her read AFfC, too. Wait a week or so, and she'll start asking after the rest of the books. Point her at the Jolly Ham's Blog-n-Billboard, and then at this place. In about another week she'll start shrieking at you to get back to your blogging.

Above all, I'm a problem solver.

I'm going to order a book with a personal inscription anonymous December 9 2009, 18:53:35 UTC

Since he said he's delighted to do personal inscriptions, I'm going to order a book and request the following inscription:

To George,
Please finish the book

When I get it I'm going to wrap it up in Christmas paper and mail it back to him.

This is a really good idea. I think I'm going to do it, too. But my inscription will be:

Dear Porkins,

Hope this tides you over until I can bring myself to do a bit of writing towards ADwD. Thanks for your custom!

George

Why not just ask for ADWD as your personal inscription???

You should pay careful attention to the football posts. I have a theory that ADWD is already finished. The football posts serially publish the book, but its in code. I haven't quite figured out whether its a single pad, or if the key has something to do with the outcomes of the games.

I have to say that this is sheer comedy gold and probably about the only possible use for his comments about football, they certainly don't add anything or offer any insights into the games.

Windhaven is actually a good book (the others, not so much) but you can buy it on Amazon for as little as twelve cents. I'm not that eager to have a copy signed by George R. R. Martin himself, thank you very much.
