Both pros and cons, that is.  I'm so happy to have become the conduit for all frustrations and praises regarding the long-delayed completion of ADWD.

Why, some of you ask?  Why do I do what I do?  Do I have a skewed sense of grandeur?  Of entitlement?  Am I doing this to simply entertain?  To constructively critique?  Or am I just an asshole?

Meh, after my Amazon just informed me that ADWD was set to ship between 31.12.2009 - 02.01.2010, I am thoroughly pissed. Yes, I know, it's Amazon, and they probably know just as little as we do, but c'mon. First, he pisses me off with his remarks regarding fanfiction (not that I don't realize that 90% of FF is crap, but it's a great way to train writing skills), then he seemingly spends most his time travelling the world and watching football. Yeah, I exagerate, but honestly: this novel was already late when it was scheduled for the date in June this year ( ... )

At some point, the story became bigger than the author that wrote it. With the delays, the people are getting more attached to the story than the author, and with that Martin is getting pushback from the fans wanting their beloved story. He can complain about it, but the simple fact is that he has no place else to go but get it done. Sure, he can be vengeful and end this thing horribly, but I don't think he would do that, and it would doom his career. This type of soapbox need occupation...Martin should finish it...and post-haste.

I think the important thing to keep in mind is that it isn't necessarily about ADwD anymore. What'll happen with the next book, and the next, I mean, I love IaF now but will I really give a fuck when the final book is released in 2023? Probably by some hack from Martin's posthumous notes.

Great site, and long overdue. I post on a number of author forums not affiliated with Martin, complaining on every one of them, and more often than not, I'm opposed by most of the other posters ( ... )
