As a fan of both cagematch teams and both book series -- I always recommend Red Rising to friends as Game of Thrones meets Star Wars -- it's really exciting to imagine the Reaper taking on the Kingslayer. Maybe even moreso, imagining Sevro versus Brienne, because both would use every trick in their respective books. Swords, razors, random nearby rocks, teeth, black market unicorn horns...

Yeah, Howlers know: sh!t escalates.

And we salute you, General nonsense. Break the chains!

NYC Season 5 Blu-ray event ext_2902334 March 14 2016, 22:00:58 UTC
Excellent news, ser: I got a press pass for the big event tomorrow night in NYC where they're making the big rollout of the Season 5 Blu-ray and screening the 20 minute "Dance of Dragons" animated featurette. I'll make an after-action report.

I already saw the featurette and it is amazing; I hope this sparks interest in a "Dance of the Dragons" prequel project of some kind ten years down the road (who knows?)

Minor question: why is the featurette titled "Dance of Dragons" instead of "Dance of THE Dragons"? The show called it "Dance of the Dragons" in Season 4 but then switched to consistently saying "Dance of Dragons" in Season 5 -- I...presume, that this is due to some sort of copyright situation? They couldn't copyright "Dance of the Dragons" because they technically don't have the rights to your novellas?

Just wanted to give you a shout out!! I got laid off on December 17th of last year and had a lot of time on my hands. The only book I really read up to this point in my life was The Hobbit. So I read that, then the Lord of the Rings and then I thought what now? I have been watching Game of Thrones since the beginning and wasn't the biggest fan because I really didn't understand what the hell was going on. Also I never thought anything could be as good as Lord of The Rings. Boy was I wrong. I am on Feast of Crows right now and just started reading your books around the beginning of January. Man I can't wait until Winds of Winter!!! Take your time though! :) It'll hit when it hits and dam will it be good!!! Roy Dotrice is amazing! I read when I can and listen in the car on the way home from work. (Got a new Job now. :)) Just wanted thank you for doing what you do and opening my eyes to reading once again. I can't wait to dabble in some other epic series. Best of luck to one of the GREATS ( ... )

Congratulations on the new job! You've got good taste in books too. GoT, LotR, ASOIAF are all fun to see and read.

OH NO! ext_3448837 March 14 2016, 23:20:12 UTC
WHAT!? They defeated Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent?! - OH NO!
I would have thought Hitchhiker's Guide fans too cult to allow such a thing. These two must be good. And this book is rapidly moving up my "to read" list.

They really are good! (and so are Red Rising Books 1 and 2, I haven't had a chance to read 3 yet). I still voted for Jaime and Brienne though. I think the Kingslayer and the Maid of Tarth might be able to outwit our Golden "friends"...

It would be a really bloody battle though.
