[download] 01. the fame - lady gagain it for the fame, fame, baby
Despite how awkward and quiet he seemed in front of the camera, Kyuhyun knew how to put on a good show for the audience. This thought reveberated in Zhou Mi's mind every single time Kyuhyun raised a hand to wipe at the corner of Zhou Mi's mouth after they'd just eaten something during a TV show recording, or every time Kyuhyun leaned in just a little bit more against him as they walked out from an airport's exit to hundreds of fans and their ever flashing cameras.
"It's amusing how just a tiny harmless gesture riles them all up," Kyuhyun told him in passing one evening, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips, "when you do it all quiet-like, they assume it's all genuine and private and shit." It was an easy and amusing game to pass the time. "You don't go into this industry without being at least a little bit of an attention whore," Kyuhyun shrugged, and the cameras kept on whirring and flashing. Maybe, just maybe, sometimes Zhou Mi hated him a little just for being such a manipulative bastard.
02. parachute - cheryl colei don't tell anyone about the way you hold my hand
It was easy the first time Kyuhyun pressed his lips against Zhou Mi's. It was easy, almost expected. Zhou Mi's lips were soft and slightly sweet with a hint of coconut from the lip balm he just applied a few hours ago, and the press of lips against lips were almost casual and comforting. They were outside a building, just slightly hidden behind the edge of the wall, but it didn't feel dangerous. Early morning, it felt like they were the only people in the world at that moment. Kyuhyun thought it was almost just like an off-hand gesture, quick and chaste like the way his fingers slid into Zhou Mi's hand. When they parted, Zhou Mi was staring at him, strangely not smiling, but his eyes were soft and dark and that was all they needed.
They didn't talk about the kiss. In fact, they never talked about all the subsequent kisses, not even the way Kyuhyun leaned more against Zhou Mi's broad chest, his head resting comfortably on Zhou Mi's bony shoulders when they lounged around in the dorm, not even about the way Zhou Mi's hands possessively curled around and softly stroked Kyuhyun's waist, seeming unable to let go.
03. because i want you (acoustic live) - placebostumble into you / is all i ever do
It wasn't long before everyone determined that Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi were the best drinkers in their little group. When Zhou Mi sat down next to him one night and matched him drink for drink, eyes never wavering, Kyuhyun's smile was possibly a little more genuine, with a touch of quiet satisfaction. No one commented on the fact that they always ended up on the same bed after each drinking session, or that it would always be drinking night after a day when the jeers and hateful shouts had been particularly loud. Ryeowook stared in disapproval at them when Kyuhyun threw up one morning during a show recording and Zhou Mi stood by, smiling tiredly.
"Just don't drink in the morning," Han Geng sighed and patted Kyuhyun's back. The younger barked out a harsh laugh. They hadn't collapsed to bed until five.
04. you look so fine - garbageyou look so fine / i want to break your heart / and give you mine
Zhou Mi's kisses tasted like secrets. Quick and soft and addicting and full of apologies. The way Kyuhyun slipped out of his grasp after every stolen moment was just as bittersweet. In the morning, Zhou Mi found a note on the table next to his bed.
"It isn't love, but it isn't horrible."
05. nicest thing - kate nashyou're the nicest thing i've seen
Zhou Mi wrote love songs about first kisses and sun-drenched smiles - nice things, happy things. Kyuhyun was none of these things, but Kyuhyun gave him three brown sugar packs when he asked for two.
06. running up that hill - placebounaware that i'm tearing you asunder
(in which Zhou Mi is Super Junior's Korean-born 13th member, and Kyuhyun is the new Chinese member of Super Junior M)
The first time they met, Kui Xian bowed and introduced himself as Kyuhyun, yet Joomyuk merely blinked and brushed it aside, asking him what his real name was. The Chinese syllables rolled off his tongue smoothly, and Kui Xian had to surpress a grin at the way the taller man beamed brightly when he got it right. It wasn't long before Joomyuk insisted on Kui Xian calling him Zhou Mi even though they were still in Korea.
Kui Xian never thought being a new member of Super Junior's new Chinese subgroup would be an easy stroll, but the backlash came much harsher than he could ever imagine. Henry told him to just block it out with a resigned smile, and the others encouraged him to do the same with apologetic sighs, but Zhou Mi grabbed his hands fiercely one afternoon, face flushing in anger, and Kui Xian was almost amused.
"Don't let them get to you. If there's anything you need to talk about, just tell me."
Kui Xian scoffed, because he was a full-grown man who could take care of himself.
"I can't pretend to know how it's like, but when I first joined Super Junior as the thirteenth member, there were chants and jeers too." Zhou Mi leaned down to look into his eyes. "Don't believe what they say, Kui Xian. You're not expendable. You're talented and beautiful and I... If it was possible, I would do anything to swap our places, Kui Xian. You don't deserve this."
It was probably kind of sweet and twisted that Zhou Mi would be willing to take all this hatred and fury for him. Kui Xian traced the bones on his wrists, a smile tugging on his lips. "You want to swap? Even your car accident?"
Zhou Mi jerked under his fingers. "No, not that! I wouldn't... I would never want you to live through that, Kui Xian. Not that." And Zhou Mi didn't say it out loud, but they could both hear his thought - "I'm afraid you wouldn't even survive."
07. on peak hill - starsthat's when i knew you were gonna make me lonely
Sometimes they forgot, but "home" meant different things to Zhou Mi and Cho Kyuhyun. Zhou Mi saw home as the little dumpling shop down the street, his dog Ni Qiu, the marketplace on a Sunday morning, China and Beijing and the way Mandarin easily rolled off everyone's tongue, warm and comforting. For Kyuhyun, home was the familiar SM building, his room with rumpled unmade sheets and Sungmin's cat puttering about, the small coffee shop near his university, and Korean TV variety shows blaring everywhere he went. Kyuhyun took Chinese lessons three times a week and Zhou Mi stuck post-it notes of Korean vocabulary everywhere on his ceiling, but sometimes it never felt enough.
08. close - telepopmusikwas i too high / was i too fast / was i too close
The only time they tried to talk about what was going on, the only thing Kyuhyun said was "I'm sorry."
Maybe Zhou Mi hadn't been in love that many times, but he knew damn well the difference between an apology that was actually meant and an apology that was there simply because there was nothing else to say.
09. 我抱着我 (in my arms) - super junior mwho will you think of at this moment?
No one told him anything about it, but the day they met again, it was like he was hit in the face with the realization that "oh, Kui Xian is with someone." Zhou Mi stared at the way Kyuhyun's smile got softer around the edge, and the way he would trace his cellphone almost absent-mindedly all the time. He tried to think of a way to tell Kyuhyun that he knew and wanted to congratulate him, but every word that came out sounded bitter and desperate. Four years down the line and it shouldn't have hurt still, but it did.
10. outtro - zhou mi"thank you, kyuhyun. kyuhyun? (laugh)"
Sometimes Zhou Mi still remembered their first days when he still called him "Kyuhyun", and the way the warmth of Kyuhyun's jacket smelled like white nights, exhaustion, affection, and nostalgia.
um you can probably tell Chinese-born Kui Xian verse is my current favourite verse.
