Life 2x17 - Shelf Life

Confession: After I saw the Angela Bromstad interview I've kinda been avoiding the net. Not consciously, mind. But I kept on finding excuses not to go back. I knew intellectually Life might not return for a third season and with American Idol well... I'm not saying it's cancelled but it's disheartening, y'know? this is the first show I've watched ( Read more... )

That ending scene totally rocked my world. I am so back into this show just from that scene alone. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SOMETHING THIS HUGE ALL SEASON! OOOOH, LIFE! PLEASE CONTINUE TO BE THIS AWESOME! Guh, my heart broke for Charlie there.

And all the Crews/Reese-ness! I swear, the show is shippier with them separated than it is when they're together. Charlie's blissful smile whenever he was talking with Dani! Dani getting flustered when he knew that she was missing him! Bobby and Tidwell just expecting Charlie and Dani to miss each other terribly and act weird! Oh, it's so beautiful.

Also, the episode in its entirety was pretty darn good. Loved this one. I am so SAD that Bobby won't be his partner anymore though. He was the only one that I could accept as a temporary replacement for Dani. Gabrielle Union is really going to have to woo me.

Hah. I know, right? What is up with that? But I looove it too.

And the ending totally rocked me! The expression on Charlie's face! He looked so devastated like this was one betrayal he'd never ever expect. Except it's not a betrayal! Because Dani never would! But Charlie is unsure at the moment.

Hahaha and yes, I love that Stark and Tidwell expected Charlie to act all weird without Dani around and how they really don't know how to handle him!

I don't dislike Union, I liked her in what I've seen but what I've seen of her characters... well, they're all spunky I don't know if she has enough range that a TV show like Life requires. Also, beside Crews (from the stills I've seen) she kind of seems like she's a rookie.

Wow I didn't realize I had written so much lol.

This is the second time I've seen Tim Guinee play a not so good guy,

LOL Yeah he plays a not-so-good guy on Lie to Me and he was just on Saving Grace as a perverted serial killer aficionado and cat killer. :P

Valerie Rae Miller was good in that role so much so I wished it was Valerie Miller who'd been Charlie's temporary partner and not Union.

YES. I totally thought this too!

I love that Reese is talking about Charlie with Tidwell and throwing out random advice. Kinda like how a parent throws out advice to babysitters. And Tidwell looked like he was not happy especially when Charlie started beaming when he learned Dani talked about him.

Exactly this. :D It was such a shippy-but-not moment. Like Tidwell almost saw Charlie as a threat to his relationship to Charlie (not that he really does, but it seemed that way, at least a little), and the partner loyalty/understanding between Dani and Charlie. And Charlie was enjoying rubbing it in Tidwell's face a bit (and was obviously ( ... )

Don't worry, I do this a LOT:D

Seems like Tim Guinee is trying to get out of the good guy stereotype he's always in!

And Charlie was enjoying rubbing it in Tidwell's face a bit (and was obviously genuinely pleased Dani was thinking of him - aww! ^_^).

Heee. I enjoyed it too! He really seemed so pleased that Dani seems to be talking about him a lot. .

It is indeed TV magic although I think Charlie recognized the boat and just wanted to see it up close Or... in my not so secret shippy side: It's because he saw the speck and the posture and thought: Wait! I know that!

It could happen!

What did he play a good guy in, out of curiosity?

LOL I don't know... ^_^

The way this is done implicates Dani in Rayborn's murder and that Dani knows a lot more about the Conspiracy than she's letting on, which is something we all suspected but this. This ties Dani into the Conspiracy in the way Charlie can't dismiss.

Does it? I'm still trying to wrap my head around the implications of the photo. What I gathered from the photo was that Dani went there to ask Rayborn questions, because she had somehow found out Charlie was going to see him (not difficult seeing as he is her partner) or she had traced his connection to her father and was doing her own investigating about the conspiracy since Charlie refused to tell her anything in Re-Entry and she knows he's holding back. It never once crossed my mind that she could be a bad guy. :/ That would make me very sad.

(since there's no body we don't know if he's really 'dead')

I highly suspect Rayborn may have faked his death. That was one of the first theories that popped into my head when we first saw the discovery of the blood, etc. but no body.

Dani has her ( ... )

I think the photo kind of does implicate Dani, if not to Charlie, but to Puryer because before this photo Puryer honestly believed that the last person to see Rayborn alive was Charlie. So, it implicates Dani and now she's a suspect in the murder ( ... )

Oooh ok right yes, that makes sense. I don't think Charlie would just to the conclusion that she killed Rayborn, though. At least I would hope not. It doesn't seem like something she would do...

they brought up Dani's ex-junkie lover in the other episode and in season 1 Roman did pointedly ask: 'Whatever happened to him?'

Hm I never thought of that. You could be on to something there. I still can't see Dani as an in-cold-blood murderer, though. Self defense, absolutely. Really-close-to-self-defense-but-not-quite, possibly...

Or, as the police say: No body, no murder (although there's a lot of blood). Yeah - I've seen it done on shows before when characters fake their deaths (or are kidnapped and have their deaths faked), that previously extracted blood is used to make it look real. It seems like Rayborn is a perfect example - he has to have some quarts on file at the hospital, being a terminal patient and all. (Although whether that much extra stored blood is needed for cancer treatment I don't know ( ... )

The ending was a real hook! I mean, I was feeling depressed and all and suddenly the photo! My jaw dropped. I thought this show stopped surprising me and yet here it is!

I'm glad the ending reeled you back in.
