The frightened wail of shock and pain cut through the Club like an active disc on full power. Thankfully the place wasn't packed as it would be later in the work cycle since it had just opened. A few programs were there relaxing - some of the regulars that were there all the time. At the sudden shriek - conversation stopped, drinks were spilled (or dropped) - and Lizor went on high alert
( ... )
She blinked up at him, looking more confused than startled, but that was definitely part of it. She wasn't as low on power as some of the newly re-rezzed, but her circuits were flickering wildly, as if her system wasn't entirely sure where to route energy to.
"I'm... the club... but..." She shook her head, pressing a hand to her chest where she was sure she'd just been struck by a disc, "Am I dead?"
Lizor's tilted narrow eyes took in the flickering of her circuits, concerned. He was dressed in his EoL uniform - but he still knew how intimidating he could look, even when he wasn't trying to intimidate. He grasped a warm gentle hand to her shoulder, trying to comfort and support. The woman was clearly frightened and confused.
"No...believe me, you are functioning - it is a rather lengthy explanation. It will be all right however, you are safe." He said quietly - making sure to lock eyes. He noted also, her uniform was like the other waitresses wore. Yet, he didn't remember her....he had never worked with her during his time here since his rerezz. Odd...
"It is not busy yet...are you able to move? I can take you to the back and give you some energy and explain some things." If she wasn't, he had no problems with picking her up and carrying her.
She nodded in a vaguely circular movement, "I... yes, I think I can." It didn't take more than a moment or two to get her feet under her again and rise, using his arm for support. Mostly she was just confused, aside from the disorientation that came along with being re-rezzed.
Her circuits finally settled into a steady glow, though there was the occasional stutter across her chest and neck and down one arm, as if her system was expecting there to be problems in those areas, "I'm Dolly." She said finally, "And you're ... you work here." That much was obvious by the uniform, "I seem to have forgotten your name. Not that she was likely to have used it even if she knew it.
Fire nearly jumped off her bar stool at the sudden scream. A woman in the uniform of an EoL waitress was kneeling in the middle of the floor, and Fire was reasonably certain that she hadn't been there a few nanos ago. A rerez?
Grabbing her nearly-full glass, Fire dashed over and knelt next to the program. "Hey there," she said softly. "It's okay, you're safe. What happened?"
Dolly wasn't as low on energy as some newcomers were, but her system didn't seem to know where energy was most needed, causing her circuits to flicker and flare, sputtering at random, "There was a riot." She said, brow furrowing in confusion, "I was..." She blinked down at her arm, finding both her sleeve and her skin undamaged where moments ago she'd been spilling pixels all over the place.
Fire's eyes softened in understanding. She'd gone through a similar wake-up, convinced that she was derezzing until she'd woken up. As it happened, she had derezzed.
"Ah. Not any more. You've been rerezzed. It's a long story, and probably one better told after something to drink." She passed the woman her glass - she'd been drinking light green, one of the mildest of the drinks on offer at the End ofd Line. "My name is Fire, by the way."
The woman looked oddly familiar - had she known her prior to the coup? Fire had been a frequent visitor to the club back then, just as she was now. But, try as she might, she couldn't access a name.
"Oh." That ... well it mostly made sense. She accepted the glass, draining it in two quick swallows before replying: "Dolly, I work here, or ... worked here, I suppose, if you're right about having died. That would kind of put a kink in the whole keeping a job deal."
She ran a hand through her hair, "I think I need to sit down." A pause then, realizing that she was still kneeling on the floor, "I am sitting down. Good for me."
Flynn heard the program scream as he turned from where he was standing at the bar to see the girl on the floor. He immediately went over to see if she was alright. It looked liked she was in trouble, her body language said it all.
'Hey, can you hear me? Are you alright?,' he crouched down to her level. She was young and looked terrified. Perhaps she was new to the Grid. 'My name's Flynn. You're safe here. What just happened?,'
She blinked up at him, one hand still pressed to her chest "I... yes? I'm fine, now. But ... but I think I was just derezzed."
Most people thought she was young, though up close it was easy to tell otherwise, it was just that she was short, compact even, but she was anything but new.
Flynn swallowed at her words. Derezzed? But she was crouched on the floor of the club. Perhaps she was newly rezzed in? Another portal malfunction? He gave her a comforting look.
'Hey, it's alright. You're not dead now. You're at the End of Line club and no one here is going to hurt you,' he placed a hand on her shoulder. He studied her young face and felt sorry for the poor girl. 'What's your name?,'
"I know." she said with a nod, though she still looked puzzled, trying to sort everything out, "I work here." She shook her head then, running a hand through her hair, "I'm Dolly, and you're obviously Flynn." Obvious, of course, because Clu wouldn't be that helpful, "What are you doing here?"
