Xena Fanfic Recs

Some Xena fic recs 'cause... why not? I'm enjoying watching the Warrior Princess kick lots of (ridiculous) ass. I can't help but idly wonder what kind of kill count Xena must have. After reading so many comics (that's not Punisher), it's weird to see a hero (?) willing to bring about the Greater Good by the sword. To be honest, the implications of ( Read more... )

Correct if wrong, but Xena doesn't have superpowers, right?

Considering what Xena does do... you'd think she was half-god. (And possibly is. It's ambiguous whether or not Ares is her father. Which is squicky because he's always trying to get her into bed too. Damn gods and their incest!)

Lawl. Okay, but, speaking just in terms of what's -not- ambiguous; does she actually have super-strength/speed?

Hrm. I don't think so. But she did fight the God of War to a relative standstill. Sure she was insane at the time and was trying to show that Ares could be her father, but that's gotta be something cool. And she killed lots of dudes from the Persian army. And held her own more or less against Hercules (although I think he came out on top at the end of that fight but refused to kill her). Oh, and she killed a bunch of the gods, including Athena, Artemis, Hephaestus... I don't think Hades was part of that massacre. And I think she's come back from the dead like 3 or 4 times.

... Xena has done some pretty ridiculous things.

Now I have something to do while bored at work. Thank you :D
I'm curious how long will you dig through Xenaverse :)

For as long as it entertains me. =D You know me, jumping from one fandom to the next. (By the way, I kinda/sorta started rewriting Paige and Phoenix's story, but I probably won't post it here. I have posted up a snippet using Google's document thinger for Nemi--if you're curious, let me know and I'll invite ya to have viewing capabilities or whatnot.)

Oh, I am curious *_*.
So will you continue the story? *crosses fingers*

I'm... contemplating completely rewriting it. It feels a lot different, a bit darker. More tense. The circumstances have been changed a bit. You can see.

Xena would SO beat up Buffy. :) Oh, and I thought it was pretty well-established that Ares was not Xena's father, even at the end of The Furies -- at the end of the ep Xena's mom says "Xena, your father ... I took him away from you," and Xena talks about how she now knows she'll never get to know her father. Then again, I'm a Xena/Ares shipper (and I think she was as hot for him as vice versa), and I don't like the idea of Xena being a demigod. I didn't like that they made her a little too superhuman, at times.

Not to ramble all over the place but I wanted to comment on what you said about the subtext in your other Xena post. I don't know if anyone really "doesn't see the subtext," especially in the last season (I mean, in "You Are There" they explicitly brought up the "are they/aren't they" question). I see the subtext, I just don't see it as unambiguously saying that they're lovers -- more that the show was holding out that possibility -- and even in the last season, for every cue that "they are" I see a cue that "they aren't ( ... )

Having not watched all of X:WP yet, but having seen The Furies, I still say they managed to leave it nicely open. It would also explain a lot of the ridiculous feats that Xena is able to do. She may not have inherited strength like Hercules got out of his parentage, but she does have, at least, remarkable healing abilities. And, really, incest is not an issue for the gods. Strange and icky to us, but in their own mythology, perfectly acceptable. And Xena seems to generally enjoy the heat of battle, so I would still consider the possibility... open. (But poor Kevin Smith! I can't watch Ares without being sad ( ... )
