I mean, did she say in general that she isn't a jewelry type of person per se but that she will marry him. What was the thing about buying a wife and being a surgeon? I got a little lost there.

It's like, she doesn't want to be the run-of-the-mill stay at home "wife", she wants to just be a partner in marriage. And since a ring is somewhat a sign of possession she wants to toss that out of it. ^^
