Back on the subject and regarding 'mundane ' sf, I've got to recommend David Brin's freakin brilliant sf novel 'Existence'. Its mundane and anything but.
I've not yet anything by Brin. In truth, I read only about 1/4 as much fiction as nonfiction. But I may give him a try. I'm trying to read more fiction. Writing sort of leaves me with little interest in reading fiction. It's work.
