"Can we ever get away from the sprawl?"

The insomnia continues, for Spooky and I both. Hers, though, is the opposite of mine. I find sleep only with the greatest difficulty, but then I sleep. She usually finds sleep easily enough, but then wakes and can't get back to sleep. We're sleep-deprived bookends. On my end, the pills that are supposed to keep the drone sleeping and buzzing along ( Read more... )

No or broken sleep captaincurt81 May 15 2011, 18:23:08 UTC
I frequently experience Spookys' kind of sleep trouble, which I call broken sleep. I'll doze off only to be awakened by a call of nature or nothing at all and be unable to resume proper rest. I resent my well-being held hostage by my own body or big pharma deciding when and how much I rest. My head is too full to comfortably lie awake for restless, sleepless hours.

Ever since I first saw one of these nocturnal satellite maps, I find myself seeking out the still-dark places. At least there still are some, and I realize that may not always be the case, so am grateful that there are lands in which humans have less sway.

I used to live in Perth, Western Australia, and now I live in Limburg, Belgium. One of the things I miss the most is a clear view of the night sky. The light pollution here is astounding. I didn't know you grew up in SE Michigan.

Worry and Fear. Yeah, they are the chain-gang with Insomnia. They clank in my head too often...as you know.

My grandfather -- my dad's dad lived in Beverly Hills, MI -- I used to trapse through the land and woods around his house when I was a wee lass, too.

But for the most part I grew up in a course of houses that ranged between I-94 and OUter Drive to 9 mile and Gratiot. My great-grandparents lived in the Chalmers area and I remember going to Eastern Market and Hamtramck with them as a kid. :D

When I was a child, I could see the Milky Way.

That's a good first line for something.

I see you at night
Swear I'm not dreaming
You're a ball of light
And I wake up screaming
