First, happy birthday! I reread Candles For Elizabeth in your honor. "Wallpaper peeling like skin in calico strips and molding house bones underneath." You set a high standard for those of us still unpublished.
Second, thank you for sharing that detail of your philosophy on writing. I have written a couple stories backwards, but more often, I find that what sounds like a killer ending makes for an even better opening. ... but hey, what do I know? I'm still a wannabe. ;-)
I agree w/ you wholeheartedly about Simmons', "The Terror." I was wondering if you've had the chance to read his more recent novel, "Drood"(which I believe to be one of the finest pieces of gothic fiction in the last decade or more).
