Just got word that the lost and ancient iPod has been found, and is waiting for me in Mystic, Connecticut. Spooky will be retrieving it this afternoon.

And, gods help me, I just started a Facebook account (as Caitlín Kiernan; don't forget the fada over the second "i" in "Caitlín ( Read more... )

Wow. Quite surprised at the Facebook account, but, then, visibility is key.

Yeah...I'm still trying to figure out why I did it.

How long would the drive to Manhattan be? I know DC to Philadelphia is roughly 2 hours, making for an acceptable day trip. Is it comparable?

Well, we only drove as far as New Haven, CT, and from there we took the train. The drive to New Haven takes about an hour and a half, maybe two hours. Then the train from there takes about another hour and a half.

By the way did you get that music-related e-mail?

Not sure, right off. I'll check.

Yep. He's the one talked me into leaving UAB for UC Boulder.

He's a legend!

Indeed. It was one of the coolest things about my twenties, knowing Bob, having him as a teacher.

There was a time when I thought to keep my social networks separate -- LiveJournal for writing, Facebook for personal/day job friends. This is gradually giving way to everyone being on all networks. On the other hand, I do still maintain some small differences in how I use them -- LJ more for actual writing/thinking, FB for more transient b.s.

Also sometime in the last half year or so, Facebook seems to have reached the point where the great mass of people are starting to get on it. That is to say, I've had friend requests from high school friends I hadn't seen or thought of in years, random strangers with whom I share no interests or connections, etc. You may (or may not) be surprised at just who friends you out of the blue...

For some reason, that sentence fills me with dread.

On the Martian glaciers, all I can say is "I KNEW IT!" I had my suspicions based on old Viking data (waaaaaay too many late nights in the winter of 1993, going over the best available photos in a search for patterns that suggested subsurface ice), but boy howdy is it good to get confirmation.

(By the way, I hope you don't mind, but I decided to harangue you on FaceBook. But that's just me.)

That was pretty much my reaction. I think I shouted, "Yes! I knew it!"
