It's currently partly cloudy 57˚F here in Providence. There's more rain on the way.

I didn't get finished with Sirenia Digest No. 135 yesterday, thanks to a murderous headache and and an unexpected trip up to Framingham. So, that's what I'll be doing today. I did get about halfway through the line edits on "In the Flat Field" yesterday. It's not ( Read more... )

I've lived many places that were not my home.

A few prisons for drug possessions. Not my home at all.

Eleven states in three days. Not too shabby for a shut-in and borderline agoraphobic.

Not at all.

I hope you can travel at your own pace the next time.

On one of our drives heading from the South to the North, we passed an interstate sign in VA that said, "LEAVE SALEM". Not leaving. Just "LEAVE". Literally a sign. Went from a land of blossoming wisteria and lush green to a sea of hard grey. Our apartment had *very* nearly caught fire while we were gone due to a malfunctioning baseboard heating system (as in our things were already warping and being damaged from the heat ~ and the thermostat reading was off the charts hot). Then the building's fire alarm went off late at night and everyone had to evacuate to the street below at 2 AM. In the shopfront window of the lower floor where we were standing, there was a xeroxed flyer that said "Springtime in Appalachia". I decided at that point I'd had enough -signs-. Was so good after moving to hear the rain fall on soft surfaces (opposed to everpresent solid brick) again. In many ways I felt at home in New England, but the actual quality/pace/cost of living elsewhere can be so much.... fresher ( ... )
