"I can't make my moods match the weather."

Saturday, David Lamb of Brown Bird died. We got the news yesterday evening. He'd been seriously ill since last spring. The band brought Kathryn and I enormous joy. Brown Bird was one of the few things that could, pretty much without fail, get me to leave the House. In one of those fucked up wrinkles in fate, we first saw David and MorganEve play ( Read more... )

I'm well into the final chapter of Cherry Bomb, which will be "finished" by Friday.
Glad to hear you are almost done, assuming there's not gonna be too much copyediting, revising etc. I got the impression there wasn't too much of this "post-production" work on the previous two books, so I imagine this one will be similar.

Unfortunately, this book will need more than most of my novels, due to some story changes I made halfway through.

I think you mentioned Silk last week, so I picked it off my shelves for a re-read. I still think it's excellent, even if it isn't as polished as your more recent work.

It's a place and a time, and, as such, it has a legitimacy.

So true. I know/knew people like Spyder and the rest, even though it was in a different place.

I'm sorry to hear you've lost this talented musician and source of inspiration. I'm actually writing a personal essay for my blog about an author whose work inspired me to create my own work. This was Thomas Tryon. I count myself lucky to have met him. Good to hear the finish line for Cherry Bomb is now in sight.

It keeps blindsiding me.

Some part of me will miss it as well, and you are very welcome.

I was having a nervous fit in my studio, trying to get stuff ready for a show on Sunday - paralyzed between having so much to do and not being able to find anything - and then I saw the news about Dave. It stopped me in my tracks and I had a meltdown. I so believed he could make it - I had missed the news on 3/27 about the relapse, so seeing the post a few days ago that he wasn't doing well, I was confused and hoping it was a small complication....but damn. I hadn't been able to see them play when I still lived in RI b/c I was always away traveling, but I had been SO excited that they were coming to Seattle last summer...then the illness stopped everything. And I just hoped, spread the word, gathered more fans, and did what I could to raise money. I thought, he'll get better, and they'll be off and touring again soon.

I love their music so much. I listen to it daily, I use it in my classes, and have directed so many people to discover it too. It's so hard to believe that he didn't make it.
