Welcome to the Occupation

A cloudy day at the beginning of September. It's 75˚F, with the humidity at 89˚. I can hear thunder in the distance. Last night, neighborhood idiots shot off fireworks until sometime after midnight. Selwyn wasn't pleased.

I don't have much to say about yesterday. I'm in the process of dealing with the very last bit of work I have to do in order to ( Read more... )

Glad to hear you are getting work done. It can be slow, loathsome and plodding, but I am glad to hear that you keep at it. That takes no small measure of strength.

I always enjoy the photos. I have a similar species on my back porch. She weaves nightly and takes it down in the morning. Spiders are good story medicine.

so that is the name of the spider. I see them around my house of a regular basis but I don't know anything of spiders to be able to identify them.

Beautiful spider. We get a lot of them around here but they're orange--someone told me they were garden spiders but now I see the pictures on Wikipedia of garden spiders look quite different so I'm guessing what I see around here are also orb weavers? I've taken lots of pictures and video of them (like this one).

Good to hear you're knocking out the DH work and thanks for the final photo to give us some perspective. I know you mentioned she was thumb sized but the first few photos made me think I was seeing some advanced stills from a new spider-centric movie heading to SyFy. Well, with better special effects than we're used to seeing that is...

Cool spider, cooler camera. A type of wolf spider has been invading my home lately. Not so cool. Not so fun waking up with one on your face. Great pets if you like to see something chased down and devoured.
I do have some wild cucumber outside my door. Very H.P. Lovecraft if you consider the tentacles and the all the spiting they do. Makes you want to keep the windows shut so they don't crawl up the wall and get you. I gather seed every year, and spreed-em around, my area is infested. Oh, wait they have creepy pods too! If want some seeds let me know, you will not be sorry. Wait, you might be sorry later but it will be to late to stop them after your sorry.
