Gah!

I honestly don't get it. Why are there so many people surprised at Rumsfeld's resignation? It all makes sence to me. The timing is right for this to happen. Rumsfeld is the sacrifice folks and the timing is perfect for it. A last ditch effort to save face, fake interest in bipartisanship, and punishment for failure within the Administration. Actually, I'm suprised that Rumsfeld's resignation didn't come on November 1st. That way, Republicans that had been calling for his head could say that they were independent of the Pres yet influential enough to effect real change. Rumsfeld resigning now isn't a bipartisan move - it's a move designed to take away the possibility that the Dems will impeach him and possibly take down the entire administration.

And I agree with you - nothing has changed, except Bush will have to work to get his rubber stamp.

Yeah, I had thought of that too. But somehow I have a feeling that it's too little, too late and the Democrats will somehow blow it. Now if you see a few Republicans jump on the bandwagon along with them, well then... there might be something there. But it's speculation at this point.

The Democrats will have to weigh out their priorities and options and hopefully choose wisely. We need balance and not stalemate but stalemate is all I can see down the road.

We'll see. The next two years will be very interesting. The next four entertaining.

Because just last week Bush announced that Rumsfeld and Ashcroft were doing a great job and that they were secure in their offices as long as he was president. Rumsfeld in turn announced that he had no intention of resigning as long as Bush is in office

But come on. Like the Administration hasn't withheld information before.

From the sounds of Bush during this afternoon's press conference the decision was made about a month ago.

I just like the fact that i was able to scoop CNN on the intarwebs. However, I do wish LJ would fix its little timestamp problem so that there's evidence that I beat them to the announcement.

surprise isn't so much the word as delight.

i know what you mean about gridlock, but that's not a bad thing. it pretty much means that no more culturally damaging laws go through for the next two years. and pelosi has already sworn to make this the cleanest, most ethically pure congress ever. considering how many criminal charges should be levelled against the government as it is, the potential is enormous.
