And now, lots of some thoughts on Law and Order: Criminal Intent.
In my defense, it's Sunday. (Also, meet my new iTouch! It's AWESOME.)
(
aj, this is somehow all your fault, FYI.)
un. you're starting to remind me of someone...
Rewatching CI: like visiting the grandparent that doesn't have dementia. I watched season eight sporadically, and then watched

THISTHISTHIS!!!
THE CONTINUITY. The character-based CONTINUITY! IT! Just! This! All of this! I mean, I should probably catch up with season 7 and 8 or something as I kind of wandered off, but YES. THIS. The meta! And the beautiful background! Hell, Eames even said "You were watching the wrong detective." to Carver and Deakins and that really should totally be the tag of the show. It should.
♥
ETA: Also, your deconstruction of SVU is kind of perfect. That show just feels tired these days, which is kinda heartbreaking because they had that peak with "Burned" and got fifteen more seasons or something. Just. Forever, my shark jumping reference is going to be "monkey in a basketball".

And I think about who probably gets the credit for that, and it's a lot of people, but mostly it's the tiny blonde, fighting her corner for eight years and counting. ♥
(I don't know how you fix SVU. I'm not sure you can.
...turn on the sun?)

Season seven is basically amazing and insane and FULL OF ANGST and is actually best watched, like, IN ORDER, which is so nuts for this franchise. And season eight they've been waffling around and having production issues, mostly, but it's not SVU-level terrible by any stretch.
they totally used his leaving and Ross' entrance as a way to smartly burn Bobby down?
Which ties in with the B set of detectives. Goren was Deakins' wunderkind or whatever, but Ross' favorite is Wheeler.
I think cancellation would do great things for the show.
AHAHAHAHA, you should pitch that idea to them. It'd do wonders.

First: I've always felt that the key to watching CI - I mean, REALLY WATCHING IT, is the moment you realize that Eames is the senior in their partnership, and not Goren. Like, that fact is THERE. It has always been, and always will be, there. (I am recalling certain courtroom testimonies in "In the Wee Small Hours." Which: !!!!ajskfhakshfakjf!!!!?, yes?) I think it's so easy to watch and fall into this familiar male senior/female junior dynamic, but Goren and Eames are so not that at all, it's literally canon. She is the one stuck with him. (THEY ARE NOT LYNLEY AND HAVERS. Goren may turn out to be a hobo, but not in a professional, senior partner sort of way.)
First Point 2: I've been out of bounds with CI for so long, and watching "Lady's Man" actually made me feel like I had missed things characterization-wise. Which: hello! That is hardcore because this is L&O! Our character never change ( ... )

OH HEY REMEMBER WHEN ALEX HAD EMOTIONS? ABOUT BOBBY?
I think it's so easy to watch and fall into this familiar male senior/female junior dynamic, but Goren and Eames are so not that at all, it's literally canon. She is the one stuck with him.
YES. YES YES YES. CI: IT HAS A SECRET TRICK NARRATIVE. YOU ARE PROBABLY LOOKING AT THE WRONG COP. Like, once you realize this, then you are In On It, along with the writers, and until you realize that, the writers are basically punking you.
HOW COOL IS THAT.
(Oh, they're so not Lynley and Havers, and I totally did not grasp this until I started watching CI again. Barbara could be an Eames to someone eventually, but not to Tommy.)
Um? Other shows milk the living crap out of that. Like TO THE NTH DEGREE. This show? Fuck, if you didn't watch "Under the Influence," you might not even notice. FOR REAL.SERIOUSLY ( ... )

Also, I owe CI an apology for assuming I could watch it the same way I watch SVU (putting it on and wandering away to complete household tasks secure in the knowledge that nothing will happen, and if something DOES happen, odds are it will be an exploding pizza, the sound of which will bring me back into the room).
So, that is to say, I'm going to catch up.

Oh, and if you're watching season seven (the season of ANGST), try doing it in order, if you can. Continuity in your Law and Order, it's more likely than you think!
(Season seven also has my favorite incongruously-named episode of anything, btw. Oh, show.)

LOL.
the five seasons and counting of bullet train mandolin spin cycle giraffe juice on offer from the folks at SVU.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Oh man, I haven't really watched very much of CI, but you just made me want to.

DOOOOOOO IIITTTTT. CI totally started out as the show I watched when I couldn't find SVU, and then I realized: a) hey, this show is actually doing interesting things and, like, makes sense! and b) Goren and Eames are just as codependent dysfunctional OTP as Benson and Stabler, but in a completely different way. (Highlights! Eames goes on maternity leave, Goren is so sad he throws things! Eames gets kidnapped, Goren LOSES HIS SHIT, while Eames rescues her own damn self, thank you very much! Goren gets framed for murder, for the entire episode Eames is five seconds away from killing the entire world with her bare hands, starting with their captain! Goren and Eames go undercover as married goth cosplayers, no, seriously, and it's not SVU terrible but rather amazing and full of love!)
So, yes, I love them. They are worth some time.
And Alex Eames never stole anyone's underwear.

(Oh, I heart her so much. She's so normal, but in that way where it just highlights how awesome she is, because she's not pulling lame superhero stunts every week, OLIVIA.
And he literally does not know how to function without her. Like, at all. It's amazing.)
