Nice view of the prompt. And the very particular care that the man takes in his habits. It is something the homeless do do. It seems to make a routine from where there is nothing. And Bo... nice Bo. We likes our dogs when we've no-one else. Bless, nice story.

I think that's true of most people-- creating some kind of order out of chaos. It just sort of unfolded that way as I wrote it.

Yes, that sort of Hemingway-esque minimalism was by design. I think it kind of went with the stark simplicity of Sam and Bo's lives, though I seem to do this often with short stories. You're right though, a bit more description and detail would give it more sensuality and depth.
