Awwww! How cute! :)

One thing -- in the second paragraph, you refer to a bundle on his back, but you call it a pack for the remainder of the story.

I love the way you've worked in tiny hints about his past, and the detailed descriptions of the things that matter to him. :)

And I like that he refuses to abandon his dog. :)

Ah yes. Good point. I should keep that consistent. I think it was because his bundle didn't morph into a backpack until I needed him to unzip a zipper...;o)
