Plot: you should really know by now... X3
Reita was on the phone with the doctor all morning, nervously walking back to the bedroom to check if Saga was still asleep. Ever since Saga came home from the hospital Reita felt bad about not being allowed to tell him all the facts.
“We will have him in the hospital next week. You should tell him that now.”
Reita frowned; he knew Saga wouldn’t like that. “There hasn’t been and colossal problems since he came home. He is fairly uncomfortable and in pain, but it’s not like the time he got contractions. Does he have to spend the whole last month in the hospital?”
“I doubt he will carry that baby through the whole month. I told you that. Very soon it will only be a matter of time.”
“Will the baby be alright?”
“There is very small risk, but I wouldn’t give it too much thought. She is healthy and strong. I’m looking at the ultrasound pictures from yesterday. I dare say that Saga has done a great job. She is beautifully developed. Just a few more weeks and she will be more then ready to come out.”
Reita felt somewhat better to hear that. And with strange warmth came a feeling of pride. His daughter was doing well and is nicely developed.
The doctor continued, “I feel sorry for Saga. He is in a lot of pain. I’m sure he wouldn’t want to have any more kids after this one.”
“What do you mean “more kids”?” Reita asked.
“Well, naturally Saga can have more kids. It’s not like he can have one and then become infertile. His body will go back to normal and function as it did before he got pregnant.”
Reita managed to think about more offspring at that. But the doctor was right; this was anything but pleasant for Saga. He had to go to the bathroom often. He had cramps, back pains, hemorrhoids, mood swings. He was a wreck. Reita often found him panting in pain. He tried to hide just how miserably he felt but his body was showing it.
“Yeah, I guess you are right. I’ll tell him about the hospital today.”
After he finished the talk with the doctor Reita went back to the bedroom. Saga was walking back to bed. He must have been in the bathroom.
“I just talked to the doctor.” Reita walked up to Saga and helped him back to bed. Saga lay on his side and pushed a big pillow behind his back so that he could lean on it slightly.
“What did he say?”
“He said we can have more kids after her.” Reita grinned.
“No!” came out long and loud. “She is quite enough!”
“I know love.” Reita walked around the bed to the other side and lay next to Saga. “He said something else too.”
“What?” Saga asked him innocently.
“You need to go back to the hospital next week. This time you will stay there until the baby is born.” Reita felt bad about telling him that. Saga’s greatest fear was that his body might harm the baby in some way.
“But why? He said the baby is doing fine just yesterday!”
“Because there is a big chance you might go into premature labor.”
Saga looked like he wanted to cry. “Is she going to be alright?” He hid his face in a pillow.”
A sad smile came across Reita’s face. “She will be fine. Honey, a lot of babies come out a week or two before term. And our baby is doing very well. She is well fed and developed. Don’t worry.”
He moved closer to Saga. “Soon she will be born and you will be free of all the discomforts.”
Saga looked back at him. “I don’t care about discomforts! I should be able to carry her to term. That is what’s best for her!”
“I’m sorry.” He really was; it hurt him to see Saga in tears.
“I’m afraid. I’m always in pain.” Saga got emotional.
Reita wrapped his arms around him, all he could offer were soothing words of comfort. He could take any of Saga’s pain. Emotional or physical. He kissed Saga’s forehead and begged him to calm down.
“Is there anything I can do to help? Do your legs hurt again?”
Saga nodded into his chest. He broke the embrace and moved down. He kneeled and spread Saga’s legs a bit. He massaged his thighs as he has figured out it can help a bit a few nights before. He noted Saga’s legs got stronger thanks to the weight of the baby.
“It will be alright honey. It’s for the better. Your body can’t take this much longer.”
Saga knew Reita was right but he just closed his eyes. He liked being massaged. He could feel Reita strong hands make the blood in his legs move faster and the muscles relax. He has wished many times in his life that he was born a normal man. But during the pregnancy he fond himself wishing he was woman quite a few times. He was sure they didn’t have to suffer so much. Nature blessed them with bodies designed to bear children.
“I don’t like the hospital.”
Reita looked up at him. “No one does. But it’s necessary.”
“It’s more or less bearable during the day. But I can’t stand the night. I get lonely and scared.” The sad smile on Saga’s lips was heart breaking. “At night I just think about the blackest of thoughts. Any sense of optimism fades and I feel hopeless.” There were tears running down the side of his face and into his hair as he looked up.
“It’s different when I’m at home. You’re here so I’m not alone. I can just snuggle up against you if I don’t feel like waking you up.”
“I wish I could stay with you in the hospital. I even asked the old man if I could the last time you were in there. He asked me how it would be if all patients had their loved ones stay over.” Reita crawled back to Saga and took him into his arms. “But you know, no matter how black the night gets, just remember that I will once again be right by your side the first thing in the morning.”
Saga laughed. “That sounds so poetic. But thank you.”
“Besides, you are not alone in the hospital. You always have her with you. When you go there however, I have both of you taken from me for the nights.”
Saga’s eyes widened. Did it really hurt Reita so much to be away from them?
Reita continued, “Comes evening, I have to leave you two in someone else’s care. I just have to trust those people to look after you. Remember that night you got contractions? No one even called to tell me.”
“I’m sorry. I wanted to call you.” Saga buried his face in Reita’s chest.
“I know love; it’s not your fault.”
The week passed by so fast. The night before the trip to the hospital Reita packed up Saga’s things. Saga just sat on the bed and instructed Reita. He did find pleasure in that whenever he could. He was able to just sit and command.
“When the time comes for the delivery I’ll make sure they call you no matter the time of day or night.” Saga grinned as Reita yawned while packing some things.
“They better. But I doubt it will just happen. I think this delivery will be careful planed out honey.”
“I guess you’re right.” But strangely Saga was still smiling.
“I’m glad you’re happy. But what made you change your mind? You were miserable just a few days ago.”
Saga flashed his white teeth at Reita. “Well, I thought about it. Even though it’s a bit early, I’m going to the hospital to have our baby. When I came back here she will no longer be a part of me and she will be able to make your life a bit difficult.”
“I’m sure she will.” Reita smiled. “It does sound nice. When you come home, then there will be the three of us.”
Saga nodded smiling. “I can’t wait to have her in my arms!”
“Than makes two of us. I’m glad you’re more relaxed now.”
Saga really was more relaxed. The day before the old doctor came by their house and talked to Saga about premature birth facts. He told Saga that his baby will be born before term but not prematurely. He explained that the normal gestation lasts about 40 weeks; the premature birth is if the child is born before the 37th week. And Saga’s baby will be born at about 38 weeks. After that Saga felt reassured.
“Reita, I was thinking about what the doctor said and I want regional anaesthesia. It’s better for both me and her. Doctor said it’s healthier because if we use the general the baby is sedated as well. Plus I get to be awake when she comes.” Saga smiled, he must have felt strongly about it.
Reita scratched his head and grimaced. “I’ll be there with you. I’ll deal with my blood issues somehow.”
“You can be with me; you won’t have to watch what the doctors are doing. I won’t be able to see because there will be a screen of sheets in my way.” Saga extended his arms to call Reita to him.
Reita smiled and hugged his lover. He couldn’t believe the end of the pregnancy was so near. Soon their daughter will be home with them. But taking Saga to the hospital was bittersweet. On one side the two of them will be much safer, but on the other side they would be away from him. He knew Saga thought the same way but preferred not to twist the knife in that wound.
Packed and ready to leave in the morning the small and strange family went to bed. Saga did say a word as he let a few tears roll down his face, no need to alarm Reita. He felt strange, not sad but not happy either. The next time he sleeps in his home he will have his child. But also this will be the last night he will spend in his own home before he leaves for quite a while.
Reita was more then surprised when Saga’s mother actually talked to him on the phone. She called in the morning to see when they will leave; she was very formal but still talked to Reita instead of asking for her son right away. She told Reita they will come by the hospital and that they wish to talk to him as well. That freaked Reita out beyond all reason. He spoke nothing of it to Saga on their way to the hospital, he was nervous enough as it was.
But he felt better when the arrived at the hospital. He accompanied Saga to his new room and was glad to see some of his band mates were already there. Shou and Nao were sitting in the room grinning madly. They jumped up to help with Saga’s stuff as soon as Reita walked into the room. They explained that they arrived earlier and the doctor told them they can wait in Saga’s room.
The old doctor smiled as he walked in behind Saga who was how being hugged by his band mates.
“I’m going to borrow Reita for a few minutes. You have company here so you won’t be bored.”
Saga nodded and sent Reita a kiss before he looked back at the doctor. “Make sure you bring him back soon.”
When they left the room the doctor spoke. “His parents are in my office waiting for you. Don’t worry; I’m on your side. There is nothing they can do.”
Reita felt better to know someone was on his side.
