Platy said she'd give up on HP under a certain condition, so it's curiosity time ( Read more... )

I would continue on if any of them were killed off, I think, so I won't go through the whole list one by one (although, I wouldn't miss some of them at all). However, book seven would be painful for me to read if Ron died in book six. It would seem off-kilter, but that could be something they aim for with Harry. Hermione dying would be sad and throw Harry and Ron for a loop, but I don't really think she is going to die like I do with Ron, so I don't fear it so much. And I don't have quite the emotional attachment to her as I do with Ron or Harry.

I think Ron is the one who seems to be marked for death (most likely), but if it he does die, I don't think it will be till some point in book seven. As for Harry, his death wouldn't surprise me either, but that wouldn't happen till the end of the books, so I am less weary with him.

What makes you think Ron will die? Is it because he was the thing Harry valued most, according to the Triwizard Cup Challenge, and if Ron was killed, Harry would be thrown for a loop and maybe more vulnerable to Voldemort?

Poor Ron! No death for Ron!

Well, if the chess is foreshadowing, Ron was willing to sacrifice himself for Harry. He very loyal for his friends, and would be willing to die for them. Hell, in PoA he even says he would die for Harry (even though Hermione says it in the film).

Little clues here and there, which could be digging. In OotP, Harry thinks he hears Ron's voice behind the veil, he makes a joke about his tea leaves spelling die, Ron, die and so forth. Of course, these all could be red herrings, especially since she told everyone someone dies in book five. But overall, I wouldn't be shocked if he did.

As you mentioned, Harry would be totally thrown for a loop if Ron dies, so it would make sense in the book. Ron would sacrifice himself, Harry gets angry and does HARRY!SMASH! on Voldemort. I don't know. I wouldn't be shocked if it happened, just very sad and cry for about a week.

Sincerely just wanting to know; no fingers will be pointed.

You mean, no fingers will be pointed except for the one pointed straight at me at the top of the post, right? ;-)

Just so people know, my non-negotiable (I always want to write that as negociable, but that's just my Quebec schooling rearing its head) is Ron. But I don't think I'd read if Rowling killed Hermione, either. I could take anyone else - even Harry, at the end, if that's what Rowling decides to do (although I wouldn't like it much and it would taint any re-reads of the series for me). But not those two. I'm just not interested in any story that has either of them dying.

Hey, that was the giving credit thing y'all seem to do when you post those lists of movies or who you'd end up with in a Buffy threesome. Finger pointing would involve a lot of laughing and chanting "Platy and Ronnie sitting in a tree...", and you know I'd never do that ( ... )

On that last point we can agree - and I think the difference is that Rowling actually CARES about her characters. Yes, she's telling a story - but the characters aren't chess pieces to be moved around. I believe she's genuinely fond of them, and no, I don't think she'd kill anyone off just because it would be cool. From all accounts, she agonized about killing Sirius, and we don't even know for sure that he's really "dead" dead.

Personally? I believe Dumbledore will die in the next book, leaving Harry to fight the finale without his mentor and protector (as is traditional in all great fantasy works). But not Ron... please, not Ron.

It wouldn't matter if she killed any of them, although I'd rather she not kill Harry, as that would make things a bit difficult if she decided to continue the series one day, or Ron and his family or Hermione, because that would just be wrong, but I'd still stick it out.

So basically D-J, and L-M are expendable!

But D is Ginny! You can't kill Ginny.

I haven't read any of the books, except for the first few chapters of whatever came first - *but* if the author killed off Snape I know I wouldn't bother going to see another movie. I only hand over money for some Alan.

I wouldnt be happy if she killed of Ron or Hermione. The ending of the series I think will be Harry dead, Voldemort dead and Hermione and Ron left to pick up the pieces.

But I dont think any of those three or Hagrid or Dumbledore should die. Like Buffy, the books are based on the relationship between
the three.

Harry's your Buffy
Hermione's your Willow
Ron's your Hermione
And Hagrid (or Dumbledore) is your Giles

Dumbledore can't die because he's going to be pivotal in the end. And the relationships between them is what drives the stories.

That said, I would still read the books, because I want to know how it ends.
