poll: shipping

I have been thinking about shipping lately and I kind of want to compose a bit of meta about it. Would anybody read it? Or is meta inherently pretentious? I know a lot of it sure comes off that way. But I still want to try. Shipping is one of the most odd and interesting facets of fandom in my opinion because there is so much emotional investment.

Do you know the anime 'Macross F'?
Well it's the classical triangle-anime,one boy (Alto) and two girls (Ranka and Sheryl)! I ship the pair AltoxRanka but this pair is not the fav of the fandom...the AltoxSheryl fans start to say hard words to the poor Ranka and they say that's IMPOSSIBLE to have an AltoxRanka end! But that's not true,because both girl has the change to end with the protagonist!

I hope it's this what you mean for 'ship-war'!^^'

I have never seen any Macross series (should I even be admitting such a thing?) It's especially tough when you are on the less popular side in a ship war, which is almost always where I find myself. I am always very nervous that the creator of a fandom will let the popularity of pairings influence the romantic outcome.

Maybe I should have made that a question: Should the popularity of characters and ships influence a series' plot?

I say NONONONO! Mostly because if Kubo Tite makes HitsuHina into a romantic relationship I will divorce myself from Bleach completely. It's the one thing that could make me hate Bleach.

(I'm kinda weird though: for most of my fandoms, with a few exceptions, I have a favorite female character: And she becomes my bicycle. :3

I'll like just about anything though, if it's portrayed well enough).

I ship like crazy with little regard to fandom interests. all the same, fandom members can make me think of a pairing, but I have to have it make sense to me. while sometimes I think pairings look good in addition to other factors, looks alone does not get me to ship something. gender doesn't matter as a blanket factor, but I do favor some pairings for how their gender displays interact (and why I like genderswitch too). eg in my interpretation, marco is a tad feminine and maria is a tad masculine, I love how that can play out.

oh and I'm a crazy multishipper. I don't care if my pairings clash. I'm bad at otps

Thanks for contributing. Genderswap is fun! I should finish coloring my genderswap drawing of Koutarou and Julie. I also like masculine woman/feminine man pairings.
