For Once

Kazuya sprawled out on his bed and yawned, closing his eyes and sighing happily.

He had just finished a paper he had to hand in before Christmas break and with that, everything for university was done and he officially had holidays now.

Staring at the ceiling, Kazuya noticed that he hadn’t layn in his bed in quite a while.

He did have this bed, but he never used it. Usually, Kazuya slept in Jin’s room, it had somehow developed that way.

They had seperated rooms and when working on homework and such, they stayed each in their rooms, but for sleeping, Kazuya would always go over to Jin’s.

Curling up, Kazuya decided that for once in a while, he could take a nap in his own bed and it was like switching off a light, as he closed his eyes and immediately fell asleep.

He only woke up about an hour later, when he heard strange sounds from the entrance.

The door was being opened and hit the wall with a loud thud and the noise that followed was unfamiliar to Kazuya.

Only Jin’s heavy breathing told Kazuya that he wasn’t under attack, that it was Jin coming home.

He frowned and rolled out of his bed, going over to the floor, to check on his boyfriend.

What expected him there left him puzzled and unbelieving.

Jin was tugging a wrapped tree, probably as tall as himself, into their flat.

Kazuya kept standing where he was, until Jin had closed the door and leaned against it with an exhausted sigh.

“What is that, Jin?”

He turned and looked at Kazuya, a grin spreading on his face. “It’s a Christmas tree.”

“You bought a Christmas tree.” Kazuya tried to stay calm. “Where are we going to put that up?”

Jin’s grin faded and he shrugged a shoulder. “But you wanted one.”

“I…” Kazuya frowned.

“When we’ve been to the shopping mall last week, you stood in front of that huge tree and couldn’t stop babbling about how much you want one, too.”

Kazuya blinked his eyes. “But we don’t even have room for a tree.”

Pouting slightly, Jin rubbed his hands together and tugged the tree further into the flat. “It’s the smallest one they had.”

“What did you pay, anyway? It’s too expensive for us to buy a tree.”

Jin laughed. “It’s a present, didn’t I just say that?”

Kazuya sighed and rolled up his sleeves to help Jin bringing the tree to their living room.

As they had put it next to the couch to a corner, Jin removed the wrapping net and beamed at Kazuya. “It looks pretty, doesn’t it?”

Kazuya could only nod.

“And when we put it up decently and decorate it, it’ll look perfect.” Jin reached out his hand and pulled Kazuya closer. “You can say now that I’m the best and that you love me.”

Kazuya laughed and tilted his head forward, putting it to Jin’s shoulder. “You’re an idiot, Jin.”

“But…”

“Put it up and decorate it?” Kazuya lifted his head and laughed again, giving Jin a slight push. “With what? We don’t even have such things.”

Jin gave him a puzzled look, before his mouth fell open.

Kazuya just laughed more and leaned in again, putting a finger under Jin’s chin to close his lips, before placing a gentle kiss to it.

“But you’re the best and I still love you for getting me a Christmas tree.”

Jin pulled a face and watched the tree for a moment, then he sighed. “There’s no other way”, he declared. “I’ll have to go buy stuff now.”

Kazuya smiled and turned to hurry out of the room. “I’ll just get my jacket.”

“You don’t have to…”

“I won’t let you pick the decorations for my Christmas tree on your own.”

Jin grinned slightly and followed Kazuya out.

It’s been more than two years, Jin thought, as he put a small red and gold ball to a twig of the tree. It was their third Christmas, since they had become a couple. They had shared none of them together, though, as for the first two times they had both gone home to their parents. But this year they had decided to stay in Tokyo and thus, they would spend Christmas together. Just the two of them.

They both had never had a real relationship before. They had both probably been in love with someone else; at least involved in serious feelings for other people, but a relationship like this was a first for both of them.

And that was how it progressed. They had to learn and find out a lot about how a relationship worked.

Jin had a bit experience, but Kazuya didn’t have any, at all. He had never actually asked Kazuya, but he supposed the younger one had even gotten his first kiss from Jin.

And Jin’s previous relationships didn’t count as those, since they all lasted for merely seven days.

Jin observed Kazuya as he picked another ball, holding it up to the light.

He still had something very childish to him. He would turn twenty-one in a few months and yet, to him, Kazuya had not changed at all, since they had met again that summer.

But he had changed from those days, when they had spent that week together; Kazuya had changed a lot since then.

He noticed Jin’s look and took the ball down. “What?”

Jin smiled and shook his head. “I just noticed we’ve been together for quite a while.”

Kazuya blinked his eyes. “And what? Has it been too long for you?”

“Probably.” Jin shrugged a shoulder. “There were just a few things I was wondering about.”

Kazuya tilted his head and put the ball to the tree, giving it a long look. He decided it was perfect like that and put his hand over Jin’s, signalising him that it was enough now. “What were you wondering about?”

Jin put the ball back to the package and closed it, turned to Kazuya then. “Whom did you get your first kiss from?”

Kazuya looked from his perfect tree to Jin and frowned. “What?”

“Your first kiss”, Jin said and smirked. “Who was it?”

Kazuya took the boxes and piled them up. “Why do you ask, all of a sudden?”

“You didn’t have a relationship before ours.”

“That answers your question already, doesn’t it?”

Jin took one half of the boxes and carried them out of the room. “So, you never kissed anyone but me?”

Kazuya rolled his eyes behind Jin’s back. “Does that make you happy now?”

Jin glanced back over his shoulder, a satisfied smile on his lips. “Kind of?”

“How sad am I supposed to be then, because I even had to watch you kiss someone else?”

Jin stopped and turned around, a frown on his face. But then he realised what Kazuya meant. “Ah, well. That…”

“And about the fact that you had about fifty girlfriends, before you met me?”

Jin closed his mouth and as Kazuya just gave him a mocking smirk and went past him, he stayed. As he finally turned, Kazuya just came back into the floor and took and the boxes from Jin’s hands.

“So, whom did you get your first kiss from, Jin?”

Jin shrugged a shoulder. “I can’t remember, actually.”

Kazuya turned and brought the boxes to the cupboard in his room. “And does it matter?”

Jin heard his voice from the other room, but he waited until Kazuya was back. “I didn’t kiss every girl I was dating.”

Kazuya smiled at him and took Jin’s hand, tugging him back into their living room. “I know that.”

“You think of me as a whore”, Jin complained, holding on to Kazuya’s hand.

“It doesn’t matter much to me, how many people you kissed before me”, Kazuya said and nudged Jin’s shoulder with his. “As long as I am the only one now.”

“Two years, and I never kissed anyone but you.”

Kazuya grinned and took something out of his pocket, holding it up.

“A mistle toe?” Jin laughed. “You bought one?”

“It’s fake”, Kazuya admitted.

Jin turned and swtiched on the lights for the tree. It lit up the room and Kazuya beamed happily, giving Jin a wide smile.

Two years, Jin thought, in which he had never kissed, thought of or even looked at anyone else. And he still wasn’t tired of it.

Kazuya put his arms around Jin’s neck. “Thanks for the tree.”

“Hold that mistle toe above our heads, Kazuya.”

He smirked. “You can kiss me without one hanging above us.”

Jin put his hands to Kazuya’s waist and pecked his lips lightly. “No one ever mattered”, he said then and smiled softly.

Kazuya smiled back and nuzzled closer, putting his head to Jin’s shoulder and watching the sparkling Christmas tree.

“I am your first actual relationship, too.”

“You could say that.”

Kazuya pulled Jin to the couch and they sat down, soft and warm light spilling over them, as they made themselves comfortable. “After all”, he said and ran a hand through Jin’s hair. “You bought a tree only for me.”

“That’s an act of true love”, Jin said mockingly.

Kazuya laughed quietly and pulled Jin in for another kiss.

He would never say it, but it was, Kazuya thought. Jin might have dated several people before him, but he had never been as serious about them as he was about Kazuya. With each single word, each single action he proved it over and over again.

Jin would have gotten him the stars from the skies, if Kazuya had wanted them.

They’ve been destined from that very first moment Jin had talked to him on the school ground. Destined from the minute on Kazuya had asked Jin to date him for a week. Destined to meet again and fall in love again from the point when Kazuya had rejected Jin.

They’ve been meant to come exactly here, the way they were now. For once, after all this time, he could finally call someone his.

And Kazuya knew that no one could ever take that from him.
