hipsters

Portland desperately needs its own version of the Hipster Olympics.

Genius! (Thanks dryad271!)

I especially like the "ironic t-shirt table" and the sprint to the ATM to see if their parent's check has cleared.

Hey stranger!

I just love this reply. I am feeling much the same way, although I have always felt less cool than my peers in one way or another. Thing about getting older is that you just stop caring. So I like to surround myself with people who don't care either, and that is more than challenging in a place like Portland.

And trying to find a man my age to date who isn't completely full of himself, obsessed with counter culture (which isn't counter at all), fashion, biking, and irony is really fun.

So yeah, my mother and my therapist are both convinced that I won't find a compatible partner until I move back east. The psychology of this is fairly involved, but I'd say they are probably right.

So when that happens, I will let you know, cause I would love a travel partner.

yeah i noticed that the people i still keep in contact with in Portland are people who either A) stopped worrying about the hipster factor, and/or B) have totally accepted who they are apart from the cool kids.

and you're right: counter-culture as we know has become as mainstream as, say, suit and ties.

you know what i've discovered to be the new counter-culture? the new counter culture are those who live loud and speak of it softly.

still waters that run deep? yeah, well they also run counter clockwise, so to speak.

i should be in-country until late spring/early summer. if you move before that, well then i'm at your service, sista.

Howdy- I added you, it was nice meeting you at Jeff's party, and I wanted to invite you to a little shindig of my own. Maybe if we combine efforts we can shake Dryad271 to come too and if we try really hard maybe dressed as an "8 year old" as she was at Lebowskifest !

Hey :)

I wouldn't mind seeing her dressed as an 8 year old, either.
