I'm in the process of househunting, and the house I may be making an offer on is in foreclosure - the yard overgrown with a summer's worth of weeds, a baby-swing in a tree, a kiddy-pool full of fallen leaves on the back deck. It's ever so sad; some young family must have loved that house, and had to abandon it. Something went wrong...
Oh, my...I was in the same situation two years ago, and had the same feelings. We saw dozens of foreclosed homes, and in every one of them there were pieces of other lives. Sometimes they were rather funny, like the bedroom with mirrors on all four walls over gold and green striped wall paper. But usually they were more poignant - a hand-rendered sketch of the Cat in the Hat on a pink bedroom wall, a backyard with a broken down porch swing or a half-finished patio, sometimes even toys just left behind.
I love the house we bought, but even now I wonder what happened, and feel a little regret.
