Jade factory, surprisingly interesting. Very expensive. Did not buy.
We drove past the Birds nest stadium on the way out of the city and were finally able to match one of Allen's statistics with one of my own. Birds nest stadium holds 86,000 people, the millenium stadium 74,000.

So, arrived in China after a fairly smooth trip over. I was very glad we'd decided to get the train as there were reported to be hideous tail-backs after an accident on the M4 around Bristol. Terminal 5 is better than the rest of Heathrow, architecturally very impressive, with huge obvious metal rods holding everything in place - I like visible ( Read more... ) -
Oops, my clothes have fallen off
Today we were wandering around Ca'Rezzonico, which is a Venecian Palazzo, set up to celebrate the 18th century. Ian commented, but I entirely agree with him, on how many breasts were on show. He is right; classical art features a lot of breasts. Some of them entirely anatomically inaccurate breasts- breasts which have been sculpted or drawn by ( Read more... ) -

I'm loving the Olympics; but I will concede that staying up to at least 12.30am every night to catch up is not doing great things for the rest of my life. Should have taken 2 weeks off. Even bought Olympic merchandise. Longer blog about actually attending soon...

Story festival
So I spent the weekend at Beyond The Border storytelling festival, in a lovely location near the sea, in the Vale of Glamorgan. The was reputedly about 40 minutes drive from home, although I appeared to have inadvertently ticked the "have an adventure" box when I put the destination into google maps.

World Book Night
I got given a book today by a client. She'd picked it up for World Book Night (which I vaguely knew about, but had forgotten about) and gave it to me. This makes me unexpectedly pleased.
It's Touching the Void by Joe Simpson.
I shall try to remember to give books next year. -

So today I went to a couple of amazing historical places- a roman villa with a fantastic mosaic floor and a the remains of huge greek town. On a day with glorious sunshine it was fantastic.
It is also Italian week of culture, which means entry into monuments is free. The villa was incredibly busy, but I lucked out in 10 minutes between your groups ( Read more... )
