Halloween used to be a celebration of the spirits, sending them on to the afterlife, et cetera - but these days it's usually just an excuse to dress up in costumes, have a party, and eat a ridiculous amount of candy.

...what do you mean, monsters.

[Ohh he can imagine two people who's going to have a blast with the 'eat candy' part of the deal.]

Oookay. I think the church would be pretty angry about that if they knew.

Wait, you weren't here for the monsters?

The Church.... got over it, after a few centuries.

{Shaking her head.}

No, I arrived on Christmas Day - and from what you're saying, that was probably a good thing.

Yeah, probably. There were these ... monster ... skeleton things everywhere and the pokémon were sort of like ... like the rest of you when your souls got sucked out, except more alive.

Best welcome ever. But at least the roads were easy to travel.

If someone tells you, let me know. I've managed to pick up that it's something involving costumes and candy and being scared.

...which sounds a lot better than what happened last year. [Because seriously that was terrible. Worst first Halloween ever.]

I keep hearing about that last part and I've had enough of that.

[Let's just hope this Halloween will be much better than last year. :c]

-- waaiiit. Wait. There were candies last year too, right?

[All those rare candies, what. ...you might want to convince him it's not the same thing or he'll never let you eat the candy when the festival rolls around.]

You know, I'll protect you from the people running around in scary costumes if you're that worried about it.

[...well, he assumes that's the kind of 'being scared' everybody means, anyway. But he doesn't think they'd all be so happy about it if it were supposed to be legitimately terrifying. Envy thinks that what he's heard of this holiday actually sounds like it could be fun.]

Yeah, but those just appeared out of nowhere. I don't think that's what's supposed to happen.

Oh great, now I feel so much better.

[Once Tulio gets out of his neurotic WHAT IS THIS phase, he just might come to enjoy it as well. It has a lot of potential, this holiday - he's slowly starting to see it.]

I hope not. I bet you're reaaally looking forward to this candy part of the Halloween deal but monster candies are a big No.

Halloween is a holiday! It was originally created by pagans or Satan or something, but it's mostly just a commercial thing now. People can wear costumes without being judged, eat a bunch of candy, and try to scare each other.

Also, a lot of weird, dangerous, and/or extra creepy things tend to happen.

Yeah, you tell me. Like I said: monsters. Not pleasant, trust me.

[But hold up, have a frown.]

...but if the devil did it I guess that explains it?

[Hesitant tone? Maybe? This guy is from a time where Satan is considered a Real Thing and now he's getting a little nervous.]

I don't think the devil actually created it.

I'm pretty sure costume parties aren't his thing.

Well that's a relief. If he was really behind it I guess we'd be on fire by now.

Hey, so what kind of costumes are we talking about here?

It's not even a holiday in my country, aru.

From what America told me, though, it's basically a day where children dress in costumes and receive candy by going door to door.

Although, I have also heard that Halloween was once an event that involved spirits, aru.

Yeah someone mentioned spirits. ... I uh, hope they're not upset about it. If it changed so much.

[So many conflicted feelings about the beliefs he grew up with. What do.]

I hope not either. [Superstitious side of him kicking in.]

From what I've seen so far, they don't seem angry, aru. I'm still curious as to what may happen this year.

[Sob it took him like ... a WHILE to read that and he's terrible at typing, so he's going to switch to audio.]

No. No no, trust me. It was horrible and weird. And I'm really hoping that was just a one time deal because it was not pleasant.

Sounds like a blast! I'm an expert at battling monsters. [Though a lack of weapons might hinder that. She hasn't quite thought this through.]

I don't suppose there was treasure too?

Wh- you are?

[Excuse him, you just don't sound like the battling-monster-type.]

No, not that time. I don't think there's been any real treasure in this place unless you count money-making cats.
