Yes, high fructose corn syrup has the same number of calories as cane sugar. I notice the ad and the web site it refers people to don't mention anything about how it blocks uptack of the "stop eating now" neurotransmitter. Or the sensitivity some people (like me) have to it. Well, you know, the waste coming out of a nuclear reactor all depends on what type of reactor is being used. Some of it can be reprocessed to be used again. And the storage wouldn't be that much of an issue of people would actually work towards a viable underground storage facility, which isn't all that infeasible (trust me, I'd know :P). Just for gods sake don't use Yucca Mountain! Yeesh. You need more places like the WIPP in New Mexico...

Still, using radioactive materials to heat water... If we were harnessing the radioactivity itself, or making use of the neutron surge of the chain reaction, or otherwise getting benefit out of the actual fission reaction, fine. But heating water, for cripe's sake!

And I don't care how stable and secure the storage facility is, there's still a mathematically nonzero possibility of failure. And that number goes up over time. How the hell can we project whether a facility will be able to survive for thousands of years unmolested?

Wish we could get a sustained fusion reaction going, though. That's a whole different kettle of fish.
