Ana wasn't having an easy time with it. The change in leadership meant that she needed to find new tactics, new ways of dealing with someone who had more power than she did. Granger's point about him not understanding muggle tactics had merit, and already she was trying to think of ways in order to get some of the civilians to turn in order to keep the numbers more even with the abilities.

Her plan for dealing with Lucius had been to destroy his memory and to give Voldemort a tainted servant and now Severus mentioned giving him a reason to stay. A reason to stay with Voldemort on the other side with Bellatrix hooked onto his arm. Damn, she didn't have one, not yet.

"Come in." Ana was pacing across her floor, holding a glass loosely between her fingers. If it was someone other than Snape, well, she'd deal with it later.

Severus entered the room and closed the door behind him, the handle engaging with a soft click. It was when he was alone with Ana that he realized how ungainly he looked: the first time he'd seen her, he had mocked her for the leather and stiletto heels. However, without his robes, wearing oversized muggle clothing, he looked younger than his years. Younger and weak and rather pitiable.

He squared his shoulders and raised his chin slightly, trying to offset this with a little self-confidence - though after his last conversation with her, during which he'd been the picture of panic and hysteria, he doubted she would care for all his posturing now. Thinking back on that brought a slight flush to his cheeks, and his shoulders drooped almost imperceptibly.

"Bellatrix informed Lucius. He left a message on my communicator this morning."

The posturing didn't matter to her. Rex had the same sort of thing when he was Severus's age and she'd done the big sister thing with him as well. That was what their last meeting had seemed like: playing the big sister. Now, however, this was far more important that comforting him and placating him about the fact that he'd caused his true love's death. This was business and it was serious.

Ana nodded when he said that Bellatrix had informed Lucius. Of course she had, there might have been a question about why the woman hadn't informed Snape himself, but she suspected it was probably due to the differences in their ages at the moment. Hopefully. She didn't want people to know his eventual fate if she needed to send him over to the other side as a spy.

"Why do you think he might not switch sides, especially with Bellatrix over there as well?"

"I tested his convictions," he replied dismissively. "Some words were exchanged which might have led him to believe I have no intention of joining the Civilians."

"He might have killed me. He would have, if he was the Malfoy I remember. Bellatrix would have done so." He lifted a hand in a half-shrug, as though to say I'm still here. "I think you and Granger know far more than you're letting on. I can only guess. My suspicion is that he's tired of fighting. Fifteen years is a very long time to spend engaged in these intrigues. The war should have been over by the time we were old enough to notice the wrinkles about our eyes."

A beat passed and he added, "Lucius is a Slytherin, and Slytherins want what serves us best. I suspect serving the Dark Lord is not serving Lucius Malfoy."
