So. I have these spiders lurking outside my house. There's about 5 or 6 of them, scattered around the place. Three are living near each other, and two live way off, so I'm not sure what's up with that. Behind the cut are pics, so does anyone know what the slag these are, and whether or not I should Kill Them With Fire?

Found them! Read more... )

Ew! That's disgusting and I'm not even an arachnaphobe!

Well, I think I found them on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_garden_spider

They are pretty large, though, about an inch across?

Oh, they're rather pretty, aren't they?

As long as they're not dangerous, welcome them. They'll eat mosquitoes for you.

*Nodnod* That's pretty much my stance on spiders: Are they poisonous? Are they in my house? If the answer's no to both, then they're pretty much welcome to park themselves wherever, as long as they aren't in my way in a daily basis.

They are probably wasp spiders, and Killing With Fire is unnecessary. They look dangerous, but they aren't particularly bitey unless you, say, poke them.

Here's a blog site with links to wikipedia: Ohnoes

*Nodnod* That's what I'm thinking. They aren't anywhere that I need to get to, so I'm fine with leaving the spiders alone.

AS LONG AS I'M NOT WITHIN A 5 MILE RADIUS OF THEM, THEY ARE QUITE LOVELY

See- I know for a fact that there are at least two kinds of poisonous spiders that live in my area. As long as they aren't those, that's fine, but these are so large and so brightly colored, that I was just spazzing a bit. I mean, come on, we all know what it means when something like this is brightly colored.

Apparently the zipper pattern is a sign of which ones are active during the day.

actually, the Brown Recluse Spider is very bland-looking, yet is one of the more dangerous North American spiders...

As are Wolf spiders (although they are freaking huge), but I just saw these large, brightly colored spiders and thought of all those snakes and frogs that are brightly colored and can either kill you, or fuck you up massively. *Shrugs*
