There is a much simpler theory at work here, my friend, than Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs.

It's the notion that if you set yourself up for failure, you will inevitably fail.

"The moment you label a child 'at risk', you just created a child at risk."

I didn't cast myself in the roll of villain. I only try to play the part.

What a cop-out.

When you try to fight it and everyone won't accept you as anything else.. what would you do?

And where does my brain fit into all this?

Yours is special. Some of it is in the parietal. The rest is an overload of the synapses, the nerves of the brain. You're just.. too stimulated.

cautionarystory February 5 2009, 20:39:44 UTC
And I take it you know all about how to stimulate me.

The way I remember it, you stimulated me.

Peter's fairly certain you insulted him in there mimic_peter February 5 2009, 14:38:06 UTC
Self actualization is nothing more then realizing your own maximum potential and then striving for it. It's different for every person. It's not a standard of perfection because no one person is perfect. He also said that the need for self actualization doesn't come about until after all the lower needs are satisfied and theoretically you shouldn't even know about the concept until then and since you do, perhaps you're already starting to move into it.

And to that end, the only person standing in your way is yourself. You can let other people block the way and you can blame them or allow them to take the blame but it's no one's burden to carry but your own.

It is different for every person. It's still a form of perfection. Whether it's a pocket watch or a wristwatch, mechanical or electric, it's still a watch. The same essentials still must fit together to compose the greater whole. When it's completed, it's still a watch, regardless of its methods or form. Self-actualization is perfection, no matter how it varies by person.

Health, security, belonging, love.. all are things that require other people. "No man is an island", Peter. You can't reach certain steps without other people believing in you. You don't know the struggle that that can be when it's not given to you as a child.

He doesn't believe what he's saying, he's just debating with you. mimic_peter February 5 2009, 21:14:24 UTC
So are you saying that self actualization is the exact same thing as the levels below it? If it's all just watch, then what's the point of trying to make it better?

Believe me, I know more about that struggle then you think.

Every method, every individual is a timepiece. Each part of that watch is necessary and can be improved. Pay attention, Peter.

Please.

Uh-huh. Maybe you could try understanding people through talking to them instead of, you know, popping out their brains. Just a thought.

I don't think inmates are supposed to reach some ideal of perfection. I mean, sometimes I'm a little confused with who ends up a warden or inmate, but like...in the case of people who like ogling people's brains it's mostly about teaching them a better way of getting to know people.

I don't remove their brains. You're disgusting. And I don't "ogle" them. How crude your views of what I can do truly are. My looking at your brain, or others, has nothing to do with getting to know them.

Go away.

Riiight...so cracking open someone's skull and looking at the brain while it's still in the head makes it all better.

You said that only when you understand the human brain do you understand the mind behind it. I figured you meant the part that matters. My bad. 'Cause really...just knowing how a brain literally works isn't really worth all that much.
