Wordmark vs. Image-based logo

Feb 01, 2009 15:21

My type teacher wants us to design a word mark and then apply it to something. I chose to use my name for the word mark, and then creating a branding package. Instead of just doing a word mark, I also created an image-based logo for instances in which I might not necessarily want the longer mark ( Read more... )

Oh dang. Well, I wouldn't be surprised if they're the same. I used one of the default Illustrator swatches. I don't know the ins and outs of color libraries yet (screen-to-print conversion, yada yada) and I wanted to play it safe for this project.

It strikes me as a bit off that your logo face is all small-caps, but your brand mark uses all-caps.

Also, the top stem ends kind of oddly, and I'd make the white stroke a bit more prominent.

Lastly, the kerning of the ie in "melanie" seems a little loose.

Other than that I dig it.

Oh, and for the purposes of the assignment, what I'd do is I'd present it to the teacher EXACTLY like they asked for, but then let them know that you've done this extra work, and want to present that to them as well. It shows that you understood the assignment and that you went "above and beyond".

Why orange?

I said it briefly, but orange because my hair is strawberry blonde, which most people I've met have termed "orange." Think of it as a visual cue. The client looks at my business card and goes, "who was that again? Oh yea, the [insert many names for redhead]."

Assuming they have met me, of course. Which is most likely if they have my business card, as I am not wont to leave it all over town as of yet..

I think it's a really friendly design - I like your "think orange" typeface a lot. Maybe a slightly more yellow-orange shade would set it just a little bit apart from the Aquent brand? (If you decide that's necessary, that is...) My only critique is that I'm not sure it's necessary to repeat the orange fruit motif between your first and last name when the full image mark is right there next to it.
