Design books & clever graphic design

I have a summer project which is basically to produce a resource file (design bible, or whatever you prefer to call it). There's quite a few different sections to it, and I want to get some really clever examples of design in it ( Read more... )

first thing that comes to mind is this guy, which i keep coming back to as i stray from text-as-image:

so i just poked around in the "search inside this book" and the results are little disappointing. the biography isn't what's particularly inspiring in here, it's the type experimentation. if you can find a used copy, that's how i got mine. it's the hot stuff, i promise.

Not a "design" book but the elements of typographic style is good.

I like business card books for inspiration myself because of all the different techniques that are used.

I also like the "touch this - graphic design that feels good" series from rockport and the "logo and letterhead design" series, also from rockport.
