I am starting my teaching-adults A-levels course tomorrow, and it is a bit nervousising for some reason. Maybe beacause I'm not sure about it as I was with the MA, or because I have gone into a bit of a hole since then. Or maybe it's because they're paying me £6-10K to do the course. Someday. In the far future. Also I don't *really* see myself ( Read more... )

Woop! Good luck! I bet you're full of nerves (I would be!) but you'll be fine. Better teaching grown-ups than kids, methinks. ;)

I can't sleep! Wonderful start to the course!

Thanks for the wishes, though!

The students'll probably be the same, remember! I did my A-Levels in evening classes a couple of years ago and I was a bag of nerves for about a week before the course started.

I'm just learning how to teach the class at the moment. I don't think I'll be let loose on anyone until December. They also came up with the delightful news that the govt. is shunting a lot of 14-16 year olds onto adult education because they can't recruit teachers :D

Hope the teaching goes well! Adult students, from what I've seen at community college, tend to be better behaved than kids because they're really invested in their own learning.

Winter started at about 7pm tonight when it all went suddenly cold. Dammit.

Huh. Strangely enough, it came on suddenly here, too. Usually it's a gradual thing.

Good luck on the teaching. Remember to introduce yourself :) And even though you get a job teaching now doesn't mean that you have to do it for the rest of your life!! (I really hope so at least!!)

And landlords (and assistants) are stupid by default. Just hit him.

I'm not teaching yet, just learning how to teach. There are a whole mountain of regulations to go through first. Mmm, bureacracy, so nummy. I really just sort of hope it'll help with my PhD application as well as being a fun. part-time job. SO far they seem less zealous than the children's-teaching people.

Learning how to do it? Huh, I never did that...
Regulations? Huh, I never saw those...

But I'm right there with you when it comes to the children...

IT's such flannel. I found out the sekrit govt. reason for all this... they can't recruit school teachers and expect people like me to teach 14-16 year olds. Erk.
