Oddly, or perhaps not so, I'd been doing some research on dittany as well. I have a feeling it will figure in somehow besides for the purpose of a scar-free Draco.
Your theories make sense.

Rowling likes to drop clues a few different ways. One is she'll drop the clue and then quickly divert your attention elsewhere as she did with Snape mentioning dittany when the focus was then diverted back to Harry's shock.
But even more so here, Dittany was what Harry was looking up in the library ( the book was One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi.) Quickly Rowling diverts Harry's attention, as well as ours, to the fact that Hagird was there in the library. (book one pg 229)You know dragon care research.

There's a potion that uses Dittany in one of the games based on one of the books. The games are in no way canon, but it makes me wonder what that potion was now. She did collaborate on part of the games because she gave them all the information on the chocolate frog cards and all.
Yeah. I like the Lex because they keep their sources to canon and not to speculation. It's also easy to search. Rowling herself says that she checks there to make sure of certain points. That's good enough for me!
